Rather than derail a perfectly sensible COD discussion thoguht I'd throw out a thread for ACIII.

Wondering where it stands on people autumn / winter shopping priority list.

My interest has increased with more info that comes out.

Having admired the slightly broken AC, adored ACII, only half finished Brotherhood and completely opted out of Revelations I was initally sceptical about ACIII but when I saw the change of setting I started to take interest.

Each trailer since then has increased my anticipation and this currently sits second to Borderlands 2 on my most wanted.

The change of environments - civil war US have given a much more different look to the game that is as welcomed as it is needed. Beautiful as Rome / damascus etc have been, they are all a bit samey. With the advance in years comes new technology which brings new combat, which has always been a strong point of the game too.

I like the look of the non city free running too, trees and rocks providing a much more organic setting (looks like wild animal involvement has been "borrowed" from RDR). The scale of some of the battles taking place give the impression of being part of something bigger. Perhaps most interestingly is the battles taking place at sea - unless I dremat them - and how they will be intergrated.

Thoughts?

It's high on mine, I think it's brave to move away from the tried and trusted formula of big citys to something completley diffrent. I really liked the city's of the 1st 4 games but understand why many people would find it stale. I just hope that it's not major changes for the sake of it and they have thought long and hard about how to improve the players experience.

Pretty much the same as me. Having watched the Anvil video that Dave suggested I must say I'm intrigued by this one. Are there ever demos of AC games? The battles looked a think of beauty, bit like those Total Rome games.

Yeah i,m on board for this, i played the first three but missed the last one as i thought they felt a bit samey. But after seeing the location and the ship battles i feel i can,t let this one go.

Not sure how much of a part you'll play in the actual battles, they could just be a cut scene. I imagine you are operating around the carnage of the civil war. Some of the new combat looks excellent.

Don't remember any demos for AC games.

Astro, I have always thought the game Worlds are stunning and beautifully realised. The detial in some of the landmark buildings is eycatching. Just needs a change now as they all lok a bit samey. I always wondered if we'd get a modern day one but the American Civil War is a pretty exciting era for me and not one I have played since North and South on the Atari ST - and a couple of hours on each Civ Rev game.

I think i read somewhere in a interview with the creators of ac (360 magazine i think) that ship battles are a important part of the story progression not 100% on this though

AC Rev had a MP beta but no SP demo.

Pretty much the same story for me. Didn't play much of AC1, thought AC2 was one of the games of this gen, enjoyed Brotherhood and haven't got round to AC:R yet. I think Revelations is just one game too many in the Ezio series. It all seems a bit dragged out. Hey ho I'll still give it a bash and will probably enjoy it.

I became interested in AC3 once I knew the setting and saw the videos of the frontier. Anything that remotely copies from RDR is on to a good thing in my book. It all looks pretty gorgeous and the animations on Connor have been given a total overhaul. I hope they flesh out the MP with this one. Some sort of free-roam ala RDR would maybe be asking too much but it would be excellent fun.

Have you seen some MP gameplay Dave? They have a domination type mode which looks rather interesting.
I am on board for this, I liked 1, loved 2 (top 5/6 games of the gen for me), like Brotherhood and found Revelations average at best. At least we know where the effort for AC:R was really going lol.

I'm intrigued to see how the battes at sea play out. They are the last thing I would expect in an AC game (with the exception of Saints Row weaponry). Will we actually control the ships or are they pre determined cut scene type affairs that are dictated by decisions made in the game?

I think the MP first seen in Brotherhood (of man) was an interseting idea that deserved more support than it got - sadly it couldn't protect from people playing outside the spirit of the game and running around like headless chickens. Be interested to see where they take it. The only way a free roam World would work for me in Mp is if there was a coop / teamwork element to it. Also, after playing AC:B and GR:FS Mp on PS3 my hopes aren't high for joining friends on this.

You control the ships in the naval battles, and I believe you get to upgrade your ship.
In the full scale ground battles you have an objective, but it is always separate to the battle. IE: you might have to assassinate someone during the battle.

Sounds similar to the large battles in Heavenly Sword, you get randoms run at you but you have to get to a certain point on the map or kill a certain person.

It's the same in all online games though. People play objective modes in CoD, BF etc but only play for kills. Even withthe game punishing them with overall scores that aren't as good they are happy. The attitude seems to be 'I kill you more I alpha.' I had a few very good games on AC:B mp when a large group of rats were on. The games were played properly and you could see the potential unfortunatly that was maybe 5 of the 50 games I played, the rest were pretty much pointless as whoever you were chasing was constantly running and you could only kill them with luck of being in the right place at the right time or lower yourself to running after them all over the map and becoming part of the problem.

I didn't even try the AC:R mp.
