Ps3 is really loud!

Hi, in the past few months my ps3 has began to get extremely loud.
I'm just wondering if a "ps3 cooling fan" would help reduce the noise.

I can't comment on the PS3 cooling fans specifically, but I do remember reports of the 360 equivalents contributing towards overheating rather than having the desired effect of cooling down your console, so probably best to stay away from those. I would imagine that additional cooling fans will add to the noise coming from your PS3 anyway.

Is your PS3 a phatty by any chance? I had the same thing happen to mine - initially it was just in the summer months (not that we've had much of a summer...) but evenutally it was just loud all the time. Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do about it, although other forumers may have some ideas. The one thing I would say is to make sure it's well ventilated... make sure nothing is blocking the vents, and if necessary, hoover the dust out of them.

Done most of the things you suggested, and it still drowns out the noise of the game!

I think a towel is enough. Adding a coat to the mix is just overkill ;)

Try raising the PS3 slightly to give a greater amount of air flow underneath the PS3.

i played my phat 60gig ps3 last summer on a hot day, played 1 game for 20mins making the loud noise as you have described and then it automatically shut off and got the ylod after, i was told by the company who fixed it never to use a cooling fan the PS3 doesn't need external fans, You do more damage by having them on then not. External fans disrupt the proper flow of air in the system which could possibly cause it to overheat, also keep it upright it's better for ventilation & make sure you have it in an open space area. do not cover it up with anything when turned on as the ps3 needs as much ventilation as possible, the more the better.
