OT: Movies you've seen recently

Like a lot of us on here I watch a lot of movies. And with me having Lovefilm, Netflix and Sky subs I tend to watch a lot. Probably a movie a day, sometimes more. So I thought I'd start a thread to basically tell each other what movies we've watched recently (old or new) so we can learn of good/watchable movies and discuss them.

So I'll start.

I watched TT 3D: CLoser to the Edge. Currently available on Lovefilm with package streaming. A documentary style movie but boy was it good. I've never really paid much attention to the TT but I always knew it was dangerous. Apparently since it started well over 200 participants have died. Two died during filming of Closer to the Edge. The Movie centers around Guy Martin, who is a likeable but at the same time annoyingly colourful character, and another guy Ian Hutchinson. The racing on tight urban and country roads is completely insane, at 200MPH sometimes, and these guys do it for fun. And the injurys - which I won't spoil lol - and they want to get back racing ASAP. Cracking film. Some great in-race footage - from helicopters and the bike's themselves.

Also saw a film called Melancholia. A really rather strange film about the end of the Earth due to a planet called Melancholia crashing into earth. The film is strange as it starts with a wedding, which gets a bit bizzare due to the fact the bride is depressed and results in some really bizzare behaviour - no spoilers. What it's got to do with the end of the Earth gawd only knows. However, the second half of the film, leading up to the Apocolypse, shows how these different people from the wedding (normal and not so normal) cope with the impending doom. So I think the first half is setting the scene for how depressed/mad/normal the characters really are. An odd film but I found I enjoyed it even though it's a bit depressing lol. Definitely a marmite film.

Oh and Kirsten Dunst gets her kit off in Melancholia. Worth watching for that alone:-)

im half way through Captain America; The First Avenger ... mmm not bad so far, considering its about a man and frizbee. Nice to see Tommy Lee Jones again and I got very excited when I saw Strike backs Richard Armitage, sadly it was short lived !

Been watching alot of documentaries on Netflix. Watched Bowling for Columbine and Supersize Me.

Also the Jackbum films.

I saw Ghost In The Shell last weekend. It made a lot more sense this time around for some reason.

Sherlock Holmes 2 - Quite enjoyable, though not as good as the first and Rachel McAdams in what amounts to little more than a cameo role did hurt it because Noomi Rapace is nowhere near as easy on the eye. Also notable for being the only Jude Law film where I don't want to turn it off every time he appears on screen, not sure why I find him so irritating in everything else he's done.

Ghost Rider 2 - Not sure if this is better or worse than the first one but either way it's a marginal call so it's still terrible.

21 Jump Street - Quite amusing but but the cash in on the 21 Jump Street franchise was tenuous to say the least. More American Pie than Jump Street

54 - Quite an oldy but I really liked this, despite it being panned when it was released and anyone who's a fan of Saturday Night Fever should enjoy it. Neve Campbell and Salma Hayek also add a big dose of eye candy.

Well, Eva Mendes isn't in it, so by default it's a worse film. She makes all films better. Especially when she's wearing that slinky tight blue dress.

I watched Chasing Amy at the weekend. Great film. Also saw The Expendables a few weeks back, which I thought was really entertaining and watch-able. Although Stallone just looks too old and quite weird now.

A Lonely Place to Die +1 - Excellent thriller.
We Bought a Zoo - heart warming family film. Scarlett Johansson looking tasty.
Transformers 3 - Another excellent Blockbuster I thought. Rosie Huntingdon Whiteley is unbelievably tidy.
Girl With the Dragon tattoo (remake) - Great thriller. Pretty much a carbon copy of the original.

I should really try to watch Ghost in the Shell again. Started to watch it, kinda liked it, but then somehow lost what was going on and switched it off.

I watched a Lonely Place to Die a couple of nights ago. It wasn't bad, worth a watch, but just couldn't get attached to any of the characters. They should have ALL died. And the change of setting part way through spoilt it for me.

I watched 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' a few weeks ago. Rather enjoyed albeit it's a very dark disturbing film in a way. About an American High School teenager that goes on a murder rampage, and how it affects his family (mainly his mum), and covers a lot of his upbringing to see how, if and where it went wrong and what 'if anything' led to the killings. All fiction I believe, not a true story as far as I know.

Transformers 3, also thought it was quite good.
Dream House, very good
Acts of Valour (like watching call of duty) good action, crap story/acting etc, but freatures real navy seals.
Man on a Ledge, good.
Super 8, very enjoyable.

Hall Pass - Much better than I expected, genuinely funny in places and check out the hot hot blonde !!

American Pie - The Wedding - Watched this again the other night and it's really put me in the mood for the new american pie film, the first 3 AP films are excellent, then it went silly with bandcamp etc....

Source Code - Very good concept and worth a watch

R I haven't seen Meloncholia yet. But I did see a programme where some mentals claimed it was Hollywoods way of trying to get us ready for the impending doom of a planet crashing into ours as they genuinely believe there is a planet going to crash into us in the next few years. It's very much a downside of having Sky.

Watched London Boulevard with Colin Farrell, Ray Winstone, Keira Knightly and David Thewelis. It was utter mince, was kinda hoping it would be another In Bruges a film is heard nothing about but was excellent. It certainly wasn't.

Ghost Rider 2 - Absolute shambles. The first one wasn't great, but this makes it look like a masterpiece. Disjointed and badly scripted, too many close ups of Nic Cage looking angsty and moody. Avoid as if it was a barge pole covered in human faeces.

In Time - Excellent film. Interesting premise, complimented by fine acting. While it wont be regarded as an all time classic, it keeps you gripped and interested from start to finish. Thoroughly recommended.

Wrath of the Titans it was meh

I've not seen In Bruges but I really enjoyed London Boulevard...

Recently watched Switch, purely on the strength of it starring Eric Cantona and not knowing much else about it. It's a French film so if you can't cope with subtitles don't watch it. Like a lot of the French films I've seen it gives absolutely nothing away till the end, really has you guessing right the way through.

Excellent. Hope it's true;) Wait until I'm old enough, dying on my death bed, then please roll me outdoors for a front seat view of the end of the world. What a way to go.

Going back to the film. I loved the way they portrayed the planet Melancholia approaching earth and then crashing into earth - really impressive looking and quite beautiful.

You should watch In Bruges - an excellent film in its own right and one of probably about three films where Colin Farrell doesn't make you want to change the channel.

I know Tel, I've been meaning to for ages because I've only heard good things about it, just not got around to it yet.

The Hungar Games - Not as terrible as I thought it would be, a bit long at 2.5 hours but reasonably watchable. If it wasn't for the fact they've cut bits out of the book and then not changed the bits they've left in to explain what's been cut out then it would be half decent.

I'm tempted by Nude Nuns with Big Guns and Hobbo with a Shotgun on Netflix but the other half won't let me watch them :(

Rab watch In Bruges now before you do anything... its one of my top 5 films of all time, genius script, Farrell is fantastic in it !

Watching it now and you realise how much Hollywood has borrowed from some of these top-tier mangas (from the late 80s to the 90s) over the years. That's not a criticism of Hollywood btw, but a comment on the sheer imagination and skill of some of these manga fellas from the past.

The original creator is Masamune Shirow a flipping genius in my book and if you liked the animated stuff give a look to the graphic novels he did.

Manga = comic and Anime = the animation... why a company specialising in importing Anime called itself Manga I don't know ?

Might have been posted already but... Sony announced that Bond 24 in 2014. Also, some Hobbit previews were fairly negative, they only saw 10 minutes, and not in sequence, so it doesn't bother me one bit. Not watched many movies recently in honesty.
