"Basically Activision were dictating the release date and the devs told them that it wouldn't be a polished game by then, so Acti canned it as they said it wouldn't be good enough. Squeenix picked it up and told them to take the time they need to polish it up to AAA standard and then they'd release."

If true (probably) then this makes me worry for all games made by devs working for Activision. Deadlines are good if set correctly for the project. If Activision are setting them for their own agenda I wonder how many more games will be rushed out before properly finished?

"sleeping dogs is what used to be true-crime hong kong isn't it? troubled development, switched devs.........i'd be suspicious of a very very weak game that tries to do lots of things but does them all poorly and looks rubbish."

There's a hands on on OXM and they seem to think it's ok. ALso read a developer interview and they were saying about how the change in publisher was a good thing for the game. Basically Activision were dictating the release date and the devs told them that it wouldn't be a polished game by then, so Acti canned it as they said it wouldn't be good enough. Squeenix picked it up and told them to take the time they need to polish it up to AAA standard and then they'd release.

Fine then, it's not Demon's Souls 2.

It's Heavenly Sword 2!

In reply to an earlier post on 15 Jun 2012 16:03:23 BDT
changed publishers..........i see :) it's one of those games like i am alive or aliens colonial mariens that seemed all-but dead and has now been resurrected. i'm super-pumped for aliens tho, so i guess i have no right to trash sleeping dogs - i just have the feeling it'll be abit of a turkey. again tho; i hope i'm wrong. maybe it'll be a flawed/understated gem like dead island :)

demon's souls 2 would be a highly anticipated game for rpg enthusiasts/souls veterans, but it wouldn't exactly be a AAA-game killer. it's too niche cos it's too hard! lol (for me read:frustrating)

Nick. says:
It hasn't changed developers; I know that for certain, it changed publisher as I said though. It does not look amazing, but it looks very very fun. (not amazing quality, but just absurd fun).

I don't honestly think GTAV will happen this year. I mean, I know Rockstar are secretive, but they really heavily marketed GTAIV and we knew about it, what, more than a year before its eventual release. Unless they're trying a totally different tactic with GTAV's marketing I find it hard to believe it'll be released in four or five months' time.

I think the big game this November most publishers are running scared from must be Demon's Souls 2!

yeah i know nick - but nah............i've got enough open-world games atm, and hopefully with GTA5 this year there's just no room in my life for sleeping dogs lol

Trigger says:
I don't think it has switched devs, but I don't think gameplay videos look anything special. I'm sure it will be a reasonably fun success, in the same way the likes of Mercenaries, Just Because and Saints Row were.

Nick. says:
I think it looks fantastic, and if you buy it, you are just giving money that will make Activision angry; IE: They closed the project, before Squeenix picked it up.

In reply to an earlier post on 15 Jun 2012 15:21:14 BDT
Yea I heard that, and it should be ringing all the appropriate alarm bells. However, have you seen the game play videos? It looks on the surface like it could be a cracking game - lots of fun. I await reviews and opinion on here.

sleeping dogs is what used to be true-crime hong kong isn't it? troubled development, switched devs.........i'd be suspicious of a very very weak game that tries to do lots of things but does them all poorly and looks rubbish.

i hope to be wrong!

this year: far cry 3, assassins creed 3, maybe GTA5 (if it's out this year), dirt 4 (again if it's out this year)

next year: maybe GTA5 & dirt 4 (if they're out next year), aliens colonial mahreens, dead space 3, prey 2 (it's still on apparently!) and maybe bioshock infinite (couldn't get into bioshock and never played bioshock 2)

so that's roughly 7/8 games i want over the next year and a half. this time last year or the year before it would've been a list 15-20ish games strong. i want next gen lol. altho i am busting a nut to get me hands on far cry 3 this gen :)

Hitman is my most anticipated game for many a moon but my excitement is equalled with a possible Hitman HD Collection. Rumours started with an Italian on line retailler listing it but now our very own GAME have it available for pre-order as well. Was hoping for confirmation during E3 but didn't hear anything. They have it listed for 2013 though - probably don't want to steal any thunder from absolution.

Speed Freaks was good, but Crash Team Racing was better!

I would like Sony to get a small team in Naughty Dog to basically make Crash Team Racing 2, but give it a Jak/Ratchet skin. Daxter & Clank Karting; make it happen Sony!
