Building a gaming PC

I thought this might be a good topic for all the PC geeks on the forum.

Iam currently looking to start my own build and plan to buy parts each month.

Was thinking about going for a build based on an i5 3750k processor and was wondering about mobo's and GPU combos that would be a good choice. Not wanting to go mental on cost so Looking for a bargain but not to cheap. I reckon budget on mobo about 100-120 and GPU about 130-170.

Any ideas on kit or deals that are out there?

Also, would be good to read about anyone else's experience in building a PC.

I'm on my phone so can't really do much to help here.

I will say if you go for an i5 then choose a site that can over clock it for you, unless you're happy to do it yourself of course.

Try x-posting this to the official PC gaming thread too.

If you are looking for value for money you may want to check for "overclocked bundles" on google which should take you to a very good UK based retailer who do some great deals. personally I'd pay the extra for an i7 bundle but not sure what budget you have

Go to the build a pc section on reddit.

They will custom build the cheapest, optimal system for you. Then you just order the parts using PC Part Picker UK (finds the cheapest deal for the components)

Try this build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/uk/p/qb1r

Except upgrade the processor. Reasonably priced, should fit your needs.

You'd be surprised at PC performance, even a modest one (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-introducing-the-digital-foundry-pc) can trump consoles easily. The one in the link costs £300, basically the same price as consoles.

I used these guys when I bought mine, very good prices and they even built it for free for me since I didn't have the time.

http://www.cougar-extreme.co.uk/computer_systems/1000S_overclocked_i5_nvidia.html

-Choose the i5 3570K
-1155 Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H is a good mobo for value, you could also go for ASUS Maximus V Gene if you want SLI and you're feeling flash
-You can get a GTX650Ti in that bundle for £125.37 for your GPU or for a bit more you can get a 660 for just under £150, both very capable GPUs

Play around with the customisation options

You're just bitter because you're a peasant who can't install a PSU without breaking it.

Also, the point is that the £300 pc can give 4x the performance. I highly doubt the next gen will be a massive jump at any rate. I mean look at the PC games we have now, I'd expect something a bit better than that quality - anyone with a decent PC can already max those no problem so the new jump will still run well.

Crysis is still one of the best looking games around and it's five years old. Once the primary hardware developers work on is upgraded (Xbox, Playstation) then they can start using the technology they have available but aren't allowed to use yet.

Got to say Far Cry 3 is easily the best looking game I've ever seen on PC. Beats BF3 hands down. The Witcher 2 comes close. I can't wait for the new consoles personally as the Xbox/Ps3 are holding back games IMO. Imagine a huge budget game that was PC only...

I haven't played yet, I'm thinking about swapping out my 560Ti for a newer 6 series card before I buy it.

"The PS4 / 720 will output better looking games than any PC available ;-)."

Trololololol. Say that to anyone owning a GTX690 :P

Does anyone have a 690? Who's paying £640 for a GPU?!

Dela - Mad gasket. If you can afford it though, why not? I have a 680. BTW its more like £800.

Yeh a 560ti will run out of steam mate. I used to have one, brilliant card, but this games somthing else.

Ever wonder why '7 year old hardware' can run things like Witcher 2, Crysis 2, BF3, Crysis 3, Farcry 3 ect ? ;).

You don't really have a clue how game development works do you poor lad...

PS4 / 720 will outperform a GTX 690.

Increased resolution and some AA thrown on yet another game built around the limitations of CONSOLE HARDWARE...

A Portal Gun says:
They trick you, that's all they do. They leave out shadows, use poor shaders, use lower resolution textures, have less going on on screen at once.

If you've never played a PC game on maximum settings then chances are you won't notice the cut corners, but when I switch from GTA IV on PC to my Xbox version it's horrible on the eyes.

Depends on the firms target Ness. All comes down to money nowadays. I've been a console gamer all my life until last year and its amazing how many games are using PC as lead platform.

Personally cant wait for new consoles but if you invest right in a decent PC a console will never come close.

Wow when did Nessy develop PC hate?

How does it feel Mozza that your peasant geekstation you built for £700 will be blown away by a £350 console next November, haha :).

Guess you dont understand what DX11 is and all that malarky Ness? Alot of PC games are completely different animals all toghether and play differently because of the extra tech.

No point in trying to explain the details though as its somthing you have to see for yourself.

Want to play console fair play. Want to see what they shown you at the cinemas, play on PC. Drawbacks being stupid money.

Edit - I take that back as I am being a retard not realising you are trolling....What an idiot.

PC gaming still leads and the best example is to watch the Far Cry 3 adverts on TV right at the end you will see "PC Version shown" and GTA 5 will be the same when the ads start for that.

Lol sorry, bored at work and thought little Mozzie could do with a bit of his own medicine ;).

Can't be bothered trolling all day though, esp against an army of PC guys.
