Sat here this after noon bored and looking at the trophies on the PSN app. Quite surprised to see the only games I have completed are the Uncharted ones. Those three are out of 50 odd I have owned since PS3 launch.

Just wondered if anyone else was like me. A compulsive games buyer who plays half the games?

I never used to be but this year and last I have bought several games and only completed a handful.

sadly its a fact i grow tired of games easily these days i have 12 platinums but i should have alot more and none of them are what i would call insanely hard to obtain ones

I have been quite bad with this in the past , but I'm now doing much better these days and make an effort to finish all my games if I am still enjoying them.

Mind u I don't 100% any games (plat) , I just have too much to play and don't really bother with Trophiments.

as of today have completed all games i currently own about 30 and have completed all previous games that i have traded in this console generation, previous console generations i didn't do nearly as well don't know if this is due to games getting easier or some other reason

hmm... well i have completed all the mario games I own (cart, super, yoshi island, wii mario.) I prefer the never ending games though like animal crossing - they are more fun!

I have almost no completions but tons of games too. I have completed all Uncharted, CoD and a few other select games but on the whole I'm a compulsive buyer who plays when I feel like it yet will buy a game in a second if I see a bargain even though I have enough to last 5 years or more at present. I think I'll still buy them until I die but the chances of completing all of them are getting slimmer by the day.

I do like to finish the games i like although having said that i have a lot of unfinished games. not finishing a game to me is like leaving half way through a film.

i have completed tons of games - but also have yet to complete a fair few. i have only platted about 14 games. i am a lot less likely to complete downloaded games, even 'proper' games like crysis - unsure why.

i usually spend at least 10 hours with a game - however, a lot of my games can require up to 60 hours to complete them.

This generation I've been quite bad; I probably complete or even play to a serious extent about half the games I buy (that's not including digital games, which have an even lower completion rate). I'm trying to be more stringent with games I buy now, I'm not even so bothered about picking things up on release and will gladly wait until they drop in price or I've got more time to play them. I've also been clearing out a lot of dead weight games which I'm unlikely to ever play, although I'm hanging on to a lot of old favourites I'd like to replay one day.

I finish the story/campaign of more or less every game I buy even if it is awful just to get my monies worth. I rarely end up with something awful though as I'm quite pickywhen choosing games.

About a quarter of the games I play I manage to complete to the point of maxing out or platting. So far the count stands at 7 plats and 21 games maxed out (3 of the those games does not include DLC achievements).

at the mo I have in my collection

Sleeping Dogs - Clocked
Portal 2 - SP still to finish, co-op clocked
Dirt Showdown - yet to complete
MW2 + 3 Both clocked SP, MW2 no multiplayer activity since buying ps3, MW3 prestiege 2 lv 60 odd.

I'm yet to plat anything lol!

I've started and reached the end of every SP game I've purchased this gen (and previous gens to be honest). But if you have to plat a game to complete it then I've only ever completed a couple. But I probably wont ever complete most of the games I buy as I tend to play them for the story and experience. I've made my peace with this. I don't have much interest in grinding a game just for a ping. I have completionist (sp?) mates who are the opposite and I think it's a sickness ;-).

Wayne says:
Depends on the definition of completion.

Back in the old generations completing a game meant finishing the sp campaign and that's it. Yes you could go back and complete games on harder difficulties or find collectibles but as far as me and my mates were concerned if we've got to the end of the sp the game was completed.

Based on the above principle I've completed almost every game I've bought this gen which is around 260. Some games I've not liked and stopped playing but that's probably about 10-15 of all the games I've bought this gen.

If your talking about maxing the games achievements/trophies then I've fully completed 47 games on Xbox (that's 47 plats if converted to ps3). Most recently i got the full 1000g in hitman.

I can only dream of having this much gaming time !!

I got a question SP wise, do you guys plays bits of different games at the same time, or concentrate on one?

I'm starting to think sticking with one game only is the key to completing games and enjoying them really. I get far more immersed if I just contstantly play one game, most recent Hitman, I completely got so involved in it and ended up being my GOTY. So thats def the way forward now, FC3 is my current game.

"do you guys plays bits of different games at the same time, or concentrate on one?"

I tend to try and stick to one as it's easier to concentrate on and become immersed in one at a time. Sometimes though if a bit of a gaming backlog has built up that's not possible and I'll do a bit here and there on a few at once. I've got about 3 games on the go at the moment but they're all different genres which makes it not too bad. I wouldn't like to have 3 racing games or 3 FPS's on the go at once for example.

I generally have 2 main games on the go at a time but will drop in and out of others depending on what I'm feeling like. What I mean by main games is ones were I'm playing through the story/campaign. But like John they'll be different genres.

For completeing games I'm like Wayne (although nowhere near as many 1000G/Plats), I'll finish the story/SP of almost every game I buy but I don't max out that many.

I'd imagine it's about how much time you have for gaming. If I haven't much time to spend it's better to concentrate on one game. Otherwise the games start to feel fractured and disjointed. Like you say it becomes harder to immerse yourself in them. A good game with a good narrative has a rhythm/pacing to it that I think breaks down if I play a bit of the game here and there.

PSOne/Win 95/98 days I'd say I completed approximately two thirds of games I started...

Took a gaming break during PS2 era - dabbled a bit on the GC for a few months but nothing major - came back to gaming with the 360/PC in 08/09 and now I probably complete around a third of games...

Altho I also blame online MP as a major distraction too...

I tend to have a couple of games on the go at any one time, although like John they tend to be different genres so they don't affect my enthusiasm for the other. Last year I made a good effort initially at only sticking with one game until it was finished, but I lost my enthusiasm for anything in the latter half of the year, and that only really picked up again a month or two back. Dragon's Dogma is the first full game I've put a lot of hours into and been enthusiastic about since about June last year. I'm actually looking forward to playing it at night, which is a nice feeling to have again after being nonchalant over games for quite a few months.
