"Microsoft has announced a new offer for those taking the plunge and signing up for Xbox LIVE for the first time, and it involves free games.

If you are a first time subscriber and sign up for a minimum of six months, you'll get Halo Reach, Fable III, Kinect Sports, The Gunstringer and Toy Soldiers for your trouble. The cost? 26.99, which isn't too bad when you consider the separate Games on Demand and Xbox Live Arcade total is 125.

The offer lasts until next Tuesday. You'll receive codes for the game's within 4-6 weeks."

All I can say is they are taking the p*ss out of loyal customers who have been paying for years

That's a hell of a lot of downloading.

Fingers crossed for cheap 360s at Game on Friday though, if they're still around...

How is it taking the p*ss? Companies always have promotions to lure new customers. For example, mobile phone networks constantly have better deals for new contracts which are often better than those offered for existing customers. The take up of this is likely to be low anyway as the vast majority of 360 owners who have any interest in gaming whatsoever will have or have played Halo Reach and Fable III at least.

So loyal customers who pay 30 to 40 every year dont get anything? but new customers do?

This is not a mobile phone contract, it's xbox live, 2 different things

Sky are another company who offer new customers better deals and think nothing of excisting customers like me who pays 72 a month

Sorry but microsoft are taking the p*ss

For the record Fable III, The Gunstringer and Toy Soldiers all interest me

Nothing of interest for me there.

Marty, if you can afford to spend 72 a month on Sky you can afford to buy Fable III (Xbox 360) .

Don't stress about it dude. It's no big deal.

Astro that really isn't the point about sky

Doesn't matter how you look at it it's a kick in the teeth for paying customers who have been paying for years

So what do existing customers get?

At least with sony ps+ you get options of free games (long term rentals) doesn't matter if your an old or new customer everybody wins

Ok astro I will stop stressing now

I only paid 26 for my live direct from MS, I believe the RRP may be 39..99. So I pay a little over 2 a month for on average of 80 hours a month socialising and gaming in general. I often buy the deal of the week game so again some money saved.

I may be in the minority but I'm getting a little bit fed up with the constant toy throwing on forums about ze capitalist pig dogs and their money hungry ways.

Trade yer box mate get yourself a book or organise a riot. The games package is obviously aimed at folk who bought Kinect, they deserve some "free" games.

I disagree as you are still getting the exact same service that you were happy to pay for in the first place. We all like free stuff but at the time you paid your sub you thought it was worth it. If you had bought your xbox today instead of when you had bought it originally it would no doubt be cheaper, slimmer and you would have some free games but you would have missed out on all the enjoyment it has brought you up until today.

Im still happy to pay my xbox live sub astro,

My issue is the neglect for loyal customers who pay every month

I'm obviously the only one that see's it like this

Lets just Agree to disagree

Its not as if they are giving away new releases or BF3/COD as part of this deal, most of those games have been out for a good while now.

As an XBL customer I have no problem with this deal at all.

I've got to agree with martyarty on this one. It's a great deal to lure new people in but a freebie for being a loyal customer would have been nice. I've spent a lot of time on my PS3 of late and the amount of freebies you get on there for upgrading to PS+ (which costs more or less the same as Live) is great.

Doritos crash course and harms way spring to mind John. The only time on ps3 we have had totally free content was after it was hacked and oos for a month

Posted on 26 Mar 2012 15:53:08 BDT
So John to clarify, you are paying for free content?

Is it not just that PS+ is a different service to Xbox live and as such can't be compared.

Also out of interest who uses the Xbox live rewards scheme? Msp's for 2 minutes of my time= happy Dave.

I remember them Astro and I know Sony's grand gesture of inFamous etc was because of the PSN black out but if you're a PS+ member you could help yourself to Trine 2 and Sly HD Collection for free this month.

I suppose there is the XBL rewards scheme and they've added a lot to the XBL dashboard but to me it seems an unbalanced give away to new joiners at the side of people who've paid into Live for years and help make it what is it today.

"So John to clarify, you are paying for free content?"

Don't try and confuse me with sound logic Dave ;)

Ah used... personally I wouldn't touch a 360 used. If its not too late you should go for new, more reliable as the 360 has an updated chip now with the CPU/GPU on the same chip, these were released a few months back.

Corona model 360, has a 115 W power supply, down from 135 w that other Slim 360s made prior to August 2011 have.

Yeah, a used Slim, not an older model.

@ John - I just signed up for PSN+. Did you say I could get Trine 2 for free ???

In reply to an earlier post on 30 Mar 2012 23:49:53 BDT
I'm not sure if that deal is still on but ones similar often come up.
