I think Lego Duplo is a good starter, it can be big or small set and will last up to 6 years if my children are anything to go by.

Good Luck in your present hunting

The best thing I have ever got for my baby (now 2 was about 15-18 months old when he started with it) was a set of diggers that we kept adding to, and a large tray with uncooked rice.

He digs and dumps, dumps and digs for upwards of an hour every day. In fact it's the only time of the day he is not running around.

Hi Anne, I would agree with jack, diggers, tractors, anything with wheels and capacity for carrying or moving things was always very popular with my sons from tiny up to 11 or 12 years. we also found that small wooden blocks or similar were very popular to load into the digger or tractor and trailer. Have a lovely Christmas with your son

Go for the diggers and trucks so you get some time to relax, also a light spongy rugby ball, and a sponge football to play together (hes little after all) I got my son Throwing and kicking nice and early, now 10 has great skill and coordination....from small acorns...
