What is it about publishing reviews these days? Even when they don't contain any links or bad language, some reviews can take days to appear, yet others appear immediately. Is there a way of speeding this up, as it becomes a pain if a review disappears if you haven't saved the copy text.

Just one of those things it seems. I've had my last 3 or 4 reviews go up within seconds but one I posted earlier today has yet to appear. Nothing you can do to speed up the process unless you've waited several days for something to appear then it's worth e-mailing customer support - or as you're a Vine member - Vine support.

I wrote my one-and-only on Word first so I could tinker with it as I was reading the book for review. Then when it was ready, copied it onto the web review page. Kept my document until it appeared on the site and then deleted the Word file. I'm nothing if not organised.

And NeuroSplicer, thanks, I did try that with a posting page, but it came up without the post I was trying to save. Haven't tried it on reviews yet, but will give it a go.

I was told by Amazon customer service that they use software filters to check all reviews as soon as they are submitted. If your review doesn't ring alarm bells with any of these automated filters, it goes up immediately. Otherwise, it is queued for inspection by a human being - and then probably goes up anyway, but a few days later. (I think they aim to get them all inspected within 48 hours or so, but obviously that can go out if there is a flood of reviews to cope with).

T.D Welsh, that sounds right. I know if you include an external web link you can most likely kiss your review goodbye. Also, they don't like you talking about the price of the item.

It would be nice if a rejected review got mailed back to you though, with a reason. Up until now I've just assumed their system is lousy. Its bizarre that you can post a review, and start a discussion, which contains the exact same contents as the review. The discussion appears immediately, yet the review can hang around for days.

I haven't had any reviews "disappear", and in one I actually referred buyers to a £10 version of exactly the same item from my review on the £30 one. Don't know why there was exactly the same item at fantastically differering prices anyway. Amazon posted it, no problem. I do notice that some reviews take a day or two and some are posted immediately, I thought it was just down to resources, not checking.

I have submitted a review for a particular book on numerous occasions and never has it appeared on the site. There is no bad language or recommendations to buy elsewhere, it's actually a very positive review. I first tried to submit it several months ago and have tried again every few weeks but Amazon just won't post it and I can't figure out why...

Pressed publish and hey presto gone forever, I can't remember what I wrote so it was gone forever! They should have some sort of save button when you initially preview, but you can cut and paste, but what a process to go through, especially when you are in the mood to post something you think is good, the blood is flowing and you just have to get it down on paper, "screen". I didn't bother rewriting my review and stopped for quite a while as I didn't trust Amazon again after that. Probably just a technical problem, down the wires so to speak, but IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

However, when you make a post to a forum like this, there is a little link called "Guidelines" at the bottom right of the message box. If you click that, you get a window with some blurb in it, including the following line:

"You can also let us know what you think of the Customer Discussions feature by contacting Amazon.co.uk's Customer Discussions team directly."

The word "contacting" should be a link. If you click it, you may then have to reenter your id, but after that you will get a message box where you can send a message to Amazon. If you ask them there, giving your id and the item you are trying to review, they will look into it.

I did that and got a reply within 24 hours. My review also appeared.

I did try the contact customer services bit that comes up when you post a review and got nowhere with it. But thank you for the additional information, I'll give that a go :)

In one I mentioned the price and according to Amzon, that isn't allowed (and I can see why as prices constantly alter), so fair enough. The other one mentioned an amount that was part of the review itself and they read it again and agreed the figure used wasn't a price reference but an integral part of the review so have processed it accordingly.

Their system automatically rejects any monetary amount believing it to be a reference to the price so will supress the review.

I even posted one on a product referring to a cheaper version of the same product, both available on Amazon. One item was £10 and what seem to be exactly the same product was £40. I think I've done it on others too?

I can only tell you what Amazon have told me, and anything that mentions a price is part of the rejection criteria. You can, of course, say something like "...at the time of this review, it represents poor value." Mentioning prices in a comment doesn't matter; it's if it's used in a review. If you use the 'Guidlines' link on this page giving them your Username and product, you'll get a reply. They'll also add a copy of your review in case you don't have it.
