i recently received a kindle as a gift and have just finished reading my first crime thriller, Night of the Black Bastards and have rated and recommended it to people.

Now please help me out on what I should read.

I like police and army stuff, action and adventure stuff with suspense and it has to have a good length to it and be authentic.

most importantly it mustnt be boring!!

thanks for your help!

Michael Connelly has written a series of books about a character called Harry Bosch. He's an LAPD detective and I've really enjoyed all the ones I've read so far. I would definitely recommend them.

You have got to read Jo Nesbo - the series featuring Harry Hole are brilliant reads . Start at the beginning with the Redbreast and work your way through

Patricia Cornwell is good too, and Kathy Reichs for something on the forensics side

The Plaza by Guillermo Paxton. It is about the drug war in Mexico and is based on true events, and it is gritty. I couldn't put it down.

Peter James Dead Simple and Peter Robinson Gallows View: The First Inspector Banks Mystery. They have both written several books and all are wonderful.

For series of books try Mo Hayder, Jo Nesbo, Stuart MacBride, Mark Billingham, but start from the beginning, and for a quick cheap read I recently read Depraved Difference, and then Tick Tock by J.Robert Kennedy

This thread is asking for recommendations, which most reasonable people would assume to be an unbiased endorsement from a reader. A self-promoting post from a writer is NOT a recommendation (leastways not one that has any merit), just a free advert that also happens to contravene Amazon's rules about what these forums are used for.

Assassin's Run (The Michael Prentiss Stories)
Try this one by Andrew French - it's based around the 14th Intelligence Company (The Det) in Northern Ireland in the '80s. The sequel is also very good. The Ares File (The Michael Prentiss Stories)

James Patterson's earlier books in the Alex Cross series are really great. Also the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben.

Anita, I am finding it as frustrating as you obviously are to see these threads overtaken by spammers. It seems that each thread is hijacked by the same people. Yes I mean you D Menon and you SL Stockford. It seems to me that most self advertisements on the kindle forum are removed by Amazon but the other forums seem to be neglected. Why should some people get away with acting as though the rules don't apply to them. Vote with your purses and wallets and refuse to buy their books until they post in the correct place. Ok, rant over.

Kittycat, I almost stopped visiting here. My suspicion, so did a lot of people, including the OPs. Hopefully the spammers read each others' books, or else this forum is some kind of half-hilarious nonsence now :(
