aaahhh, but we all had to go on our bikes to buy them, and had to spend our 10p wisely - no half pound or 500g bags for us - we made do with 2 oz!! Happy days....

Big Figure says:
Yes, Mr. M. J. Phair, I too remember Ice Breaker bars ...... and Applejack, strawberry Aeros, the five flavour Fry's bars and cracknells from Quality Street.

But am I the only person to remember jelly daleks? Around briefly in the 60s.

In reply to an earlier post on 14 May 2009 22:26:54 BDT
I well recall "Ice Breakers" if you bit off the chocolate and then licked the crystalline mint, it would make your tongue bleed, the crystalline acted like shards of glass, I don't know, but I'm guessing that may be the reason the were pulled. They were tasty though. Anyone know why they stopped making em?

I didn't like Pacers as I always thought they were a naff version of Opal Mints.
I used to like Old Jamaica chocolate bar which tasted strongly of rum and Country Store (I think that's what it was called) which was another chocolate bar with raisins and small biscuity bits in.
However, the three things I miss are Mint Cracknell and one that wasn't a sweet but was sold in sweet shops which was a sort of lattice biscuit tube with cream cheese running down the middle.
Plus, the best ever Pot Noodle flavour - Cheese & Tomato. Which, for some reason, they refuse to bring back.

Fuse Bars. My family used to joke that they contained everything swept up from the Cadbury's factory floor because they had so many different ingredients but we loved them all the same!

I agree with the Canadian chocolate part - every time I go to visit friends in Canada I take armfuls of Galaxy chocolate, Polos and Wine Gums and leave with Jolly Ranchers sweets.

I really miss the Peanut Lion bars they had as a limited edition about ten years ago or so.

Oh, at last. I was beginning to think I was the only one who loved Nutty Bars! I used to buy one every Sunday morning after finishing my paper-round. Heaven! They were made by Rowntrees, since swallowed by Nestle. I emailed Nestle a few years ago asking them to reintroduce it but they said it would be 'too expensive to produce'. Sounds like a poor excuse to me. You can buy something almost identical in America called Payday. The shop here that imported them charged 89p a go so I could only afford to buy one on a payday!

A. D. Smith says:
I remember Blobs lol lol Fizzy cola, strawberry and cream to name but a few

The chewing gum you're thinking of was called 'Freshen up' and the flavour was a cinnamon that left the roof of your mouth tingling!
Aztec bars were both a mix of milk and plain chocolate if my memory serves me correctly and I used to love em! Another bar I liked was made of coconut and had cherries in then covered in milk chocolate, was it called 'Kalimba'? or something similar

To add to the above 'assortment' (sic) I remember-
....Carols ( mostly caramel inside)
Merols which were hard sweets, butterscotch flavour -might be only from Scotland as my English wife doesn't know these !
plus ....Amazin bars,
Whisp bars ,
Jolly bars (small nougaty bars with fruity bits inside- around in the early 1970's)....
........... not forgetting ...
Cadbury's Toffee buttons;
Fry's Punch bars;
Cadbury's Extra bars (soft caramel centred chocolate)
and Millar's Goosberries (hard 'sucky sweets with soft centres, possibly Scottish also)
......and last but not least .. Maynards Jelly Beans...all bad for the teeth but great.
How sad is all that! Cheers.

Bluey says:
I used to like a chocolate bar called Secret. This was sometime in the early-mid 90s. It had thin trails of chocolate piped over the top and that's all I can really remember about it. The other thing I remember is my mum taking me to the newsagents to buy one and the newsagent saying that they were discontinued!

Page Turner says:
Yes, Big Figure, now that you've mentioned them I do remember sour fruit chewing gum, but my "too sweet tooth" detested them. I think I'd probably appreciate them better now.
I was reading a great book by Alex Kava recently and the soft drink TAB was mentioned, I have a vague recollection of it, can anyone help improve that, also is it still available in the U.K. and Ireland.??

"Jolly jelly Junglies, you build them up in piles!" It really needs the irritatingly catchy tune: animal-shaped jelly sweets that came in a cube with pictures of jungle animals. Circa 1970, at a guess. I think they were quite expensive, not really pocket-money sweets.

Also some plastic animals that came in two parts: you could create mutant hybrids by swapping the forequarters of, say, a lion, with the hindquarters of, say, a giraffe. They came mounted on a card with a stick of either chewy toffee or a rather nasty "fruity" chew bar.

And edible Thunderbirds: they were like Candy Shrimps but in a variety of different colours and shaped like Thunderbirds craft.
And stickers that came with a flat piece of pink bubble gum: "Mickey Takers" was one series, another was called "Ringer Dingers (for your fingers)" {you wrapped them round your finger}, another had monsters and a set of name stickers so you could name them after your friends. And of course there were cards that came with gum: Batman (blacks, red, blues, real photos and "Riddler's Riddle" with a decoding device), Thunderbirds (only b+w), Tarzan, Yellow Submarine, Monkees, Planet of the Apes etc.
