I called them on 0800 496 1081 and explained I did not know I had inadvertently signed up to this. Without question I was offered cancellation and a refund of £49. I received emails to confirm that the money would be back in my account in 2-3 days.

Thanks Amazon. Well done on rectifying the initial dodgyness!

hi guys i just found out that i was charged £49 and wasnt even told they was going to charge me. I am a student and £49 is alot of money to me as i have to cover study living and travel costs. but i phoned them up and they sorted it out really quickly. My money will be refunded in 2-3 working days. I relieved that I am getting refunded with no questions but an email telling me my free trial will be over in a few days would have been really nice to avoid the shock of having my money taken out my account without any knowledge. Just be careful when you sign up for this so you know what you are getting yourself into.

This has just happened to me, I cancelled the trial version of prime a couple of days ago and I spoke to a colleague to verify it had been cancelled, they said the auto renew was cancelled and they guaranteed me I would not be charged. I look at my bank balance today and Amazon have taken out £49 for Prime membership. This is ridiculous and the customer service seem to tell you anything to shut you up! Thankfully they are refunding the amount but not impressed at all, needed that money to visit family.

They are supposed to be but I haven't had anything yet.

I have sent a very cross email to Amazon. They were just recovering from their greedy reputation after reportedly not paying taxes.
You can at least get some money back by cancelling the subscription immediately.

Same charge here. One phone call 0800 496 1081 and membership cancelled and 49 refunded (2-3 days) even though I knowingly did sign to the trial and did use it during the trial.
I would have expected a reminder email when the trial was coming to an end.

So many people are having the same issue here, £49 charges for amazon prime without notifications. Even they sent me an email saying will refund me in the next 2-3 days after I cancelled the membership, but i'm still very unhappy about it. Charging customers without notification is against the law, goods or services must be sold at the listed prices, and this amazon prime always appears free of charge, but now it charged me £49 and I have not made any purchases on amazon in the past 5 months!! can't believe that such silly strategy is adopted by a multinational enterprise like amazon.
Gpt to say this, if something similar ever happens again, i'm done with amazon.

YOU STATE THAT IF I DO NOT USE THE PRODUCT (PRIME) DURING THE NEW MEMBERSHIP PERIOD THAT I WILL BE OFFERED A REFUND... GUESS WHAT?!! NO OFFER OF A REFUND... THIEVES... A small email to let me know that my trial period was ending would have been nice... also my last order is STILL NOT HERE... horrible service

not exactly, Amazon pretty much sign you up automatically for Prime when you get a new Kindle and they dont even remind you that your membership is coming to an end, so you dont remember to cancel your membership. Also when im logged in on amazon ( not just me though) that im not even a member of Prime, so i cant cancel it online, despite having just been charged £49 for it on my bank statement :(

As a frequent amazon user I hope amazon is glad to know that i will no longer be using amazon. This prime scam is beyond ridiculous therefore you have lost a christmas cutomer! For a student with a £30 budget a week, to take £49 out of my account I deem criminal. Absolutely disgusting.

I had this same problem and managed to cancel with what I've been promised a full refund- was absolutely mortified to find the charge on my account. I complained through the live chat with customer care and it was dealt with very quickly. You can ask for the transcript as a reference of conversation. Took a little while to find contact us option on the site but I'd recommend that route.
Let's hope we all get our money back without any hassle!

I just went to buy a book on Amazon and Prime came up as an option. My husband who was watching said - 'stop, dont click on that, they'll charge you £50'. I responded with 'dont be stupid, they cant charge me without telling me' Then neither of us could work out how it was coming up as a free option! went into my account and found I have been paying for this service and never used it for THREE YEARS!
I would like a refund please AMazon - you have effectively stolen this off me £150 , I am shocked that you have been able to get away with this. I didnt subscribe to any free offer, I bought some books with you in APril 2011 and you have continued to charge me without my knowledge. This is out and out theft.

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Nov 2013 00:25:19 GMT
I've also had the same, no notification of charge, they simply took it. Did you get anywhere with claiming a refund?

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Nov 2013 00:26:55 GMT
How did you do this?

Has anyone had any luck recently getting the £49 refunded? As a student I am ridiculously low on money as it is so was wondering if anyone has a time frame starting from the e-mail instructing them to refund to the length of time it takes to receive the refund?

Posted on 26 Nov 2013 12:18:10 GMT
I've had £49.00 taken from my card even though I cancelled just a few days into the 30 day trial. Absolutely disgraced that this has happened. Even my account states I am no longer a prime member. I've emailed Amazon just now and will be expecting a refund ASAP. At this time of the year, I certainly cannot afford for money to be taken out of my bank without my permission. Shocking!!!!

Posted on 26 Nov 2013 12:45:32 GMT
Great news. Had email back within 30 mins to say it is clear I cancelled my membership within 30 trial period and a refund of £49.00 will be back in my bank 2-3 days. Great customer service however very dubious now about using Amazon in the future..

In reply to an earlier post on 27 Nov 2013 18:07:33 GMT
I've also been charged for Amazon Prime. I never signed up for it or even a trial and I'm not a member according to the site. They've also deleted my order history period. How the hell do you contact them to get this rectified? It's basically an unlawful charge. I want my money back.
