I need to edit swearing out of some MP3 tracks so that my 9 year old son can listen to them. I've absolutly no idea about music software! Can anyone please suggest a software that is not too difficult to use? Cheap as possible to get the job done. Either want to put a bleep or other sound over the swearing or silence the vocals it so that the music is still playing. Thanks

Audacity is good music editing software which is also free:

you should be able to download 'radio edit' versions of songs might be worth investigating rather than spending time editing?

This is a very easy operation and if you like I would be happy to do the edit for you. I used to restore recordings professionally but am now retired. However, I am warned not to put my e-mail address in this posting, so I do not know how I can get in touch with you - or vice-versa - if you would like to take me up on this. Peter

the best and i think the easyest to get to grips with is tractor or cubase.
ask around you may be able to get them free.
but on a personal note it is our job to say no sometimes not in a harsh way the biggest prob i see with kids and parents is the lack of bounderys. also having brought up two children myself - they are grown up now and well adjusted the one thing you have no control over is what happens outside of your gaze - School esp.
Good Luck and my regards.

Bleeping out the swearing in an mp3 will result in everything being bleeped because everything is on one track. You would need to get hold of a multi-track version of the song which is next to impossible for a song in the charts. Cutting anything from the song is a bad idea anyway, it takes away from what the artist intended.

Download Quicktime pro, from apple for mac or windows, you can easily edit out sections, If you have a mac you can use quicktime , or Garage band without spending any extra.
With quicktime just move the markers (in and out) to either lower the audio or delete a section.Same sort of process with garage band.
you can then save the file to any media you choose as sound track. ( or video)
