dv camera's which record directly to an sd card or built in hd tend not to have firewire, they are normally cameras that take a minidv tape which is what FCP and FCE are used to. also they download to the mac in realtime ie it will take an hour to put an hours footage onto the mac. DV tapes are pricey and the industry is starting to move away from tape formats (unless its seriously high end betacam). as long as the mac can read the footage it can convert it which is still quicker than a tape format. she may need a portable hard drive though 1TB USB should do it.
