What did everyone think of the 3 part mini series on Dave? Was it a welcome return for the Dwarfers or did Red Dwarf run its course some years ago?

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!! Not the least for proving the truth of the existential premise of the last part - that the characters have evolved to have a life, well clear of any intended by their creators Grant & Naylor.

For myself, I'd be more than happy with the odd cluster of episodes as over Easter, or single one-off extended adventures.

Welcome back, guys

It was all a little disappointing but I'm sure they could bring it together if they got a new series. I loved the Blade Runner link!

I am a massive Red Dwarf Fan and was really looking forward to the new 3 parter on dave, Sorry peeps but it was rubbish. The oldies are still the BEST.

rather disappointed by them, I'm afraid. Far too surreal and, call me old-fashioned if you will, I really MUCH preferred the sit-com (complete with laughter track) of the originals over the soul-less (and laughless) newer episodes

Prt 1 was good. Prts 2 & 3 were a let down (what with all the Coronation St bullsh*t). All in all a wasted opportunity.

Liked it overall. Good first part, got really worried about where it was going in part 2 (seemed way too self-referential on first viewing), and then it totally redeemed itself in part 3. Shan't spoiler it for those who haven't seen it yet, but I was pleased (and relieved!) with how it ended. Watched as a whole, it's a good 'un. Probably would've been better if it hadn't been split into three underweight episodes - take away all those adverts and additional opening & closing titles and it was really only about the same length as an old-school two-parter.

The show did have a slightly clinical feel, which I reckon was due to the lack of the usual (real not canned) laugh-track, but each character got several new scenes to treasure and they were all on form. Not many series can put a cast back together after a ten year gap and come up with something that can stand alongside anything from the show's last few series. Would the people saying "meh" really rather that Back To Earth had never happened?! Being fashionably disappointed is so easy when you don't have to offer up your own better idea instead...

Me, I'm hoping for a proper 9th series now ... but, hey, I'll settle for a couple more specials :-)

Part 1 was pretty rubbish but part 2 and 3 were brilliant observational and self referential comedies.

I thought it was great, a refreshing change, and it has "grown up" a little too (though not too much ;) )
I loved the new CGI and they way they map it to the camera movements.

To be honest it was all a bit disappointing. If they do get the go ahead for more episodes they have to start with a much better script first.

bring forth a new series...do away with the all the new special effects.....bring back the audience...and explain how the ship wasnt completely destroyed by the virus in series 8...i'd die happy then :-))

I thought it suffered from being shown in three parts over three nights.
I much preferred it watched as an entirety.

I found the First episode rather tired and disappointing. I really missed the studio audience laughter. There didn't seem to be a spark among the 'Boys from the Dwarf'.
I thought the script was a bit lame at the beginning.

I was glad that they hadn't visibly aged a lot. Cat hasn't changed even a little!
Kochanski looks - different. Not old - just different.
I found the change in Kochanski's appearance a bit unnerving - I didn't recognise her at first.
The subsequent two episodes I really enjoyed - and they made me want a new series.

There was so much expectation put on this - and I feel it lived up to it eventually.

part 1 was ok, part 2 was good but it lost my interest somewhat, but it all tied together well in the final part. i recorded them all and watched them all at once, i could'nt have watched them one by one i mean they were only 20mins per episode - it should have aired all at once, i think dave did this to milk it out. but it did leave me wanting more! a christmas special would be great.

I've never been overly critical, so 'Back To Earth' passed muster with me. I can see how some people would be disappointed with it as it had a strange air about it and seemed to be more measured than its forerunners. I never laughed so much as when in The Simpsons, Sideshow Bob repeatedly stepped on to rakes. Part 3 has a scene reminiscent of this and this alone, made the whole exercise worthwhile, as far as I am concerned. I'd be surprised if a new series turned up but if more specials are planned, I'd welcome them.

B. C. Hughes says:
These new episodes were a complete waste of space. It was all very weak and watery they should have focused on being funny instead of trying to be clever with blade runner and coronation street. These along with the new groan worthy special effects that distracted and detracted from what made the show funny. To be honest they were better off leaving well enough alone rather than tainting the quality stuff already produced. If they create more like the old series then excellent otherwise forget it.

I havn't seen Back to Earth so I can't comment.
However I thought the orignal went on for far too long.
I found the last two series annoying and not very funny.
Sometimes you just have to know when to end a thing.

New ones I wasnt laughing half as much. Replace it by all means with another sci-fi comedy in deep space, but let Red Dwarf retain its dignity as a great comedy.#

Father Ted I would also love to see re-done, it would have a lot to live up to but a nice religious satire comedy would be warmly recieved in this day of '2 and a half men' style bore fest **comedy**

Oh! B****r, I call myself a Red Dwarf fan and I didn't even know when it was on, so I missed it.

You missed nothing worth seeing RL
The 8 series were great ...Red Dwarf in Coronation Street ...a 5 year old could have written a better plot and script.

Also, it ripped off the premise of the League of Gentlemen film which was very disappointing. If they do remake it again, they're going to need to acknowledge that some time has passed and the characters have aged. They should go back to wandering aimlessly in space without the rest of the crew, it could be excellent. I doubt it though.
