I read the back of a book in a shop but didnt buy it... never seen it since and its really bugging me!!

It was in the sci-fi/fantasy section of the shop, and was possibly placed towards the tail end of the section (alphabetically) with the author surname beginning with something after R?

I also seem to remember the cover was predominately black, but i could be wrong there!

The contents described on the back involve someone in a bookshop (looking for a specific book?), and some sort of secret society... Think it mentions the bookseller being involved??

Pretty week on detail i know, but it could ring a bell with someone...

Long shot but could it be The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard?

it sounds like it might be... cheers.

any other suggestions? got a feeling the bookshop thing could be a theme repeated in quite a few novels!

If you've not already found what you're looking for from the suggestions above from others, the book this immediately put me in mind of was "The Club Dumas" by Arturo Perez Reverte. Not really sci-fi in the traditional sense but certainly "speculative fiction" i guess. Is this what you were looking for?
