Mary says:
Hi S. Young,
It sounds like 'Once upon a wedding', Paula Detmer Riggs (Silhouette Sensation, 1993, 1994). The hero is Jess Dante, a lawyer with one arm and the heroine is Hazel O'Connor, a child psychologist.

hope some one can help, I am looking for an old book about a girl who at the start of the book is cleaning a house and overhears the female owner say some stuff about her family so she retaliates and gets sacked, the hero happens to be present and follows the girl and offers her a job fixing up his old family house. When he gets to her place he finds she is about to loose her flat and she has a baby ( its apparently her half sibling but her mum passed away so she took care of the child) she accepts even though she dosen't like him after some incident when they were younger. she gets to his place and finds there is no heating or plumbing but gets o with fixing the place while staying at the pub, he come back and finds her in a state trying to fix up the place in squalid conditions and dumps her in the bath at the pub. I remember there being a reunion with her father and sister and her father saying mean stuff about the mum that left them i think and that she was the same coming back with an unwed child and that the hero was the supposed father.
I don't know if i am mixing up 2 books, it was set in england, if someone can help to identify this book, i would greatly appreciated it. thanks

Ellie says:
Hi Debi
I think the book youare looking for is book lists > Robyn Donald > Prince of Lies
Prince of Lies by Robyn Donald
description from Fiction db

"I'm going to stick close to you...closer than a lover, but I'm not going to touch you... "

He called himself Duke and, like a prince on a charger, he'd rescued Stephanie from a nightmare kidnap situation.

Stephanie felt it would be foolish to trust him when, it seemed, his tender passion could change without warning to uncompromising ruthlessness.

She meets him years later when he is growing roses and names one after her.

hi everyone, have been thinking about this book for a long time and wishing I could remember it's name so I could find another copy.

It's an 80's title about a group of passengers whose plane is hijacked I think and they are held captive in the hijackers' camp. The heroine and hero are highly attracted to each other but share a heated love hate relationship made worse by the hijacker leader's obsession with the heroine. She manages to overcome the leader and break out the others but is shot in the leg trying to join the others in the helicopter or rescue plane and is left behind. The hero comes back to rescue her from her torture by the jilted hijacker leader.

Does this ring any bells with anyone???

Hi I think this book is by Diana Palmer, the baby is his niece and there is somehing to do with his past that may prevent him gaining custody so she marries him to help him. Can't remember the title but maybe this may jog someone elses memory

K. A. Newton says:
I absolutely adored Charlotte Lamb books. There was one I reread many times and then someone gave me the same book on cassette tape.

A woman marries a man who was so jealous she ran away and gave birth to his twins - only returning when they were old enough for her not to need medical attention because of his jealousy.

It was terriufic as most of her books were.

K. A. Newton says:
I used to borrow M&B books from the local library 8 at a time when I was at home with a baby. I used to complain to the staff that I had walked all the way from home and back and found I already read some of them.

One day one of the librarians showed me lots of tiny symbols and initials written on the inside covers of the books .

The Librarians didn't really like it but people would put a tiny sign indivdual to them - say a letter J inside a triangle in each book they read so they didn't take home the same one twice. I used to use a lower case k with a squiggle on the end of the end of it.

K. A. Newton says:
There was another terrific book about a girl who meets a man and has a raging affair with him including one unprotected act balancing on a hall table - they planned marriage.

He is an accountant and on the front of the book he had a very sharp featured face and nose.

She is later suspected of being a thief (fraud) and he thinks she is guilty but of course she isn't

He realises he loves her and offers to marry her but he still thinks she is guilty so she refuses.
Terrific book.

Sorry I can't rememb er the author or title.

Goonergirl says:
That sounds a lot like Almost Forever by Linda Howard (and not a M&B to the best of my knowledge) - including the hall table!

I know this is not Charlotte Lamb, but this book sounds remarkably similar, Burning Obsession by Carole Mortimer

Hi K A Newton

I have pretty much every CL book by M&B/Harlequin, but don't recall this synopsis. Are you sure it's by her, and that it was twins?

The closest I can think of is Abduction, where she marries him but leaves him due to his jealousy and rages, and only goes back to him when he discovers he's the father of her abducted child (a boy, around 15mths). Could that be it?

If not, try, as you can see the book covers and get the synopsis too. I hope this helps.

Seeing how well you have all done at finding other people's books, here goes with mine - it is an older M and B, late 80's I think based on my memory of the cover, but I may be wrong. The main thing I remember about the book (apart from how much I enjoyed it) was that the couple had been secretly married for ages (I think!) and now she was older she thought it was time to really become a husband/wife. There was at some point in the story a moment when he gives her her birthday gift of wellingtons. Hope this jogs someone's memory. Thanks.

I think this is The Greek's Chosen Wife by Lynne Graham
description from Fiction db
It's been eight years since Prudence's arranged wedding to Nikolas Angelis. Their relationship was never consummated and they have always lived apart.
I definitely remember he gave her floral wellingtons as a present as she ran an animal sanctuary.

How fantastic - I did think it was Lynne Graham, but had looked at lots of her books with no luck. I thought she was a gardener because of the wellies, but you are spot on - I will get a copy straight away! Thanks Ellie and Lucy - I can't believe how quickly you helped me out.

Added some days later:
I've now re-read the story and really enjoyed it. I had actually read the synopsis for it on Amazon, but hadn't recognised it as being the right story as I didn't remember anything about babies! It is a good read with far more humour than a lot of m&b books, which is why I felt like re-reading it. Thanks again to Ellie and Lucy.

Nomad Girl says:
Impressed with everyone's results! Serious Sherlocks some of you :) So lets see if someone can help me solve this one. This is a really old one...I had lost all hope, till I spotted this thread!
The scant storyline -
The heroine comes to some middle eastern place much against her will, for some position/ project for a Sheikh, possibly something to do with re-furbishing/ building a wing for a school (?) and is picked up by the hero (Tariq (?)), who she thinks is an uncouth driver but of course, is a rich sheikh(?) who has hired her? Though he says nothing. He drives her through the desert route. Memorable scene on the way to the destination(?) - she goes for a dip in a pool, in an oasis in the middle of the desert, and a butterfly lands on her shoulders, and he remarks, perhaps the butterfly thought she was a flower and he kisses her. Through the story, she is working on some project for a school there? And they have hot-cold encounters. Somehow, by the end of the story she ends up in his house? And his mother/ ex-wife/ lover (No idea who), insults her and tells some tale and she leaves. Last memorable scene - she throws a bottle of oud/ perfume across the room after one last whiff and takes off in a car to the airport and the plane just takes off as the hero reaches the airport and watches it take off through the wired fence around the runway. And few months pass and she is in a school teaching a bunch of kids and he shows up.
That is all I remember since the rest of the pages were "missing".
Any help is much appreciated.
