...or, for best effect in a setting different to the one you are actually occupying yourself

Heard plenty back at the time, thanks, Elastic ;-)

Still give Powerslave the odd spin, and the occasional spot of Whitesnake.

Yes, some folk would say in a different room to the one the stereo is in, Peter ;-)

Takes them at least 10 minutes before anything interesting happens.

After 25 mins things really take off.

The Body Parts Party (Digi) - my favourite Osada Vida album. I've just read that they now have a new guitarist. I wonder if it's because of the distinct change of sound that came with the last album. It is certainly my least favourite OV album. I await any new recording with a lot of interest, and little expectation....

Metanoia - Porcupine Tree

most enjoyable set of improvs, finished off with a rather spinal tap moment at an italian restaurant

Transmissions From the Satellite Heart - The Flaming Lips

and then a first listen to Morning Phase - Beck. I have to admit to being slightly underwhelmed but maybe it will be a grower.

N. Hudson says:
Metanoia is one PT album I haven't yet purchased, and yet has been higher on my wishlist than others I have purchased already - because I've not seen it cheap enough for my meagre budget. I definitely prefer the earlier PT to the later, and even though I acknowledge that Gavin Harrison is technicallly a better drummer, I prefer the more open drumming style of Chris Maitland.

At the moment, because I was interested to hear what he sounded like, I've been listening to the band that Osada Vida's new guitarist was most recently in, Brain Connect. (I suppose there is a chance he will continue in both bands, but I presume not.) The first track I listened to was alright, but didn't really grab me. Quite liking the second track though. Might see if I can download these somewhere (as although I'm not a fan of downloads, I don't think they have released anything physical - or, at least, not that I've found so far).

Niacin Blood Sweat, Gift from Sherbs. Doesn't seem quite as focussed or clear as I was expecting perhaps due to where if came from. Good stuff none the less.

English Oceans - little new here, but so what.

Another very welcome addition to the Truckers' catalogue.

Hillbilly Voodoo - Barrence Whitfield with Tom Russell

An old school R n B album.

A strange pairing on paper, but works beautifully - and containts a fine cover of Dylan's Blind Willie McTell.

Like I said Peter, not the best quality, but enough for a taster and its better than an MP3 download. I did think a version of Purple Rain was going a bit far, but other than that I enjoyed it. Maybe not quite enough to purchase the CD though. I'll probably take a peek at the other albums on Spotters, I have a feeling there might be one or two that might suit better.

Re-bought this - Howe 2: High Gear - a bit like DLR era Van Halen with Greg Howe about the only 'shredder' worth listening too ..IMO.
Slow Focus by F*** Buttons is rarely out of the CD player
And revisiting Urban Grooves Volume 2 by Down To the Bone, still their best, a modern take on Rare Groove
