Nah, the 80s definitely dragged, politically AND musically despite what Neph (sigh!) says.

No you weren't Neph..I went to those Red Wedge concerts (what a load of rubbish they were...Billy Bragg going on about Socialism while he couldn't wait to move out of Barking and into his Dorset cottage!)

Cant stomach armchair socialists myself Schiz, above all the repulsive Blairs, hyprocisy incarnate. That whole Red Wedge thing was just another bunch of lefty poseurs that stank to high heaven. Give me Duran and Spandau any day and their shameless, hedonistic love of the good life.

Exactly Tommo! You're an Essex man yourself..I can just imagine how his old pals in Barking must feel about him!

Exactly my boy!

I'm a lefty myself, but a non aligned libertarian. I couldn't stand Thatcher but equally the crap spouted by a lot of the 'old' left back then was embarrassing and condescending. It seemed to me that those Red Wedge tours were run by upper class 'radicals' who seemed to enjoy preaching down to the working classes. I remember going to a Red Wedge concert at Ealing Town Hall in the 80's and had to suffer the biggest load of codswallop I've ever witnessed. They had a 'Socialist Magician' on the bill and it was so pathetic half the people in the place (including me!) walked out. If that makes me an 'armchair fascist' 2old4925 I would plead guilty as charged m'lud!
I actually prefer Situationist politics myself...if they take themselves seriously then take the p ss out of them! There were quite a few Pro-Situs like there, basically they just ridiculed the whole thing and were very entertaining! (Much more than the bloody 'Socialist Magician'!)

Exactly Schiz when extremism of any side rears it's head, it becomes a borefest and it's time to walk away....

Point is Mark that as much as I agree with your criticism of the left there is no point in 'leftie bashing' because the right wing has been in power since 1979, and it is they that are responsible for all of today's current ills. When will Thatcher and her sons Major, Blair & Brown be put on trial for what they did?

Here we go again....that point Schiz made towards me had NOTHING to do with you, but you felt the need to make an assumption on my behalf....I'll say it again.....FASCIST!!!!!

Billy Bragg: If he would of stuck to his roots and stayed in Barking, i would of had a certain respect for him, despite spouting the biggest load of Commie/ Stalinist bull that you've ever heard imo...However, he's shown himself to be a complete fraud and a total hypocrite, i'm not surprised one iota that his former brothers/ sisters of the " Masses" are baying for his blood!!!!!

Getting wound up again listening to that one note metal are we?

2old4925 - I have little against you and am personally unmoved by people's impression of me...but when you come on a general music forum and any argument or disagreement you don't like ends up in accusations of being a fascist or a Nazi it really doesn't help matters..surely there is a better way to argue your corner?
If you don't like Metal (which many people do) it might be more intelligent to engage in other people's point of view, most people here are open to a good exchange of views...I just reckon that slagging off a whole genre of music is a bit small minded... His Metal page takes into account a vast range of music, 60's/70's hard Rock, progressive music, Psychedelia, Classic Rock, New Wave of Heavy Metal, Grunge, Hardcore, Punk etc etc..to suggest it's all 'one note' is not fair. Anyone who knows Tommo will know he has a wide range of musical taste. Politics doesn't have to be the 'be all and end all' of every conversation. I consider myself a bit 'lefty'. Tommo and I disagree on a lot of things but we still like much of the same music and get along fine (most of the time).
No offense..but just think that it's a bit of a lazy way out to just revert to that sort of thing.

Ha ha! The most silly dance of all time (except Freddie Garrity's very silly dance from Freddie and the Dreamers!) at least in those days we actually had half a chance of winnig Eurovision!
I think I'll stick with the Ramones however Neph thank you!

The silly dance wouldn't look half so silly if it weren't for Martin Lee's dodgy 'tache.

This lot could give Freddie & The Dreamers a run for their money...

Ha ha ha...excellent Gordon. The Lords actually put out some decent beat music back then although the silly dancing does look rather dated now, they must look back and cringe! I have some of their later stuff when they got a bit more into psychedelia and lost the gimmick dancing.

oh dear.................Its very easy to misunderstand posts (as it is texts-as I have found out to my chagrin), but I have met Schiz, ok he's a southerner..which is bad enough. He and I have had discussions re politics and I can testify to the fact he is a bone fide leftie...maybe not in the traditional sense, but to even suggest he has fascist tendencies is laughable.
