Their second album was funkier and not that good.
Right now,

Haven't We Met Somewhere Before - new Led Zeppelin bootleg, 3cd box set from 1975, soundboard, reasonable quality.

Kraftwerk - Minimum Maximum, teutonic brilliance. A greatest hits package in a live stting. I wish I had seen them when they were last here. :-(

er...good quality, now giving proper listening on cd, managed to squeeze into two cdies(after kicking out bloody 'Moby Dick', doing little pasting, cutting). Happy now.
Dazed and Confused 36 min. long. Warning. The good news - No Quarter just 26 min.

Mona by Mona. The backlash starts here. Epic, emotive, impassioned modern Rock manufactured for stadia. The new Kings of Leon, the new Coldplay, the new U2... It rocks, but does seem to lack heart and sincerity.

I Am Very Far - Okkervil River. Won this in a competition in the daily paper and it arrived yesterday (still no sign of Robbie Robertson). This is their first album after backing Roky Erickson on "True Love Cast Out All Evil". I had to go to allmusic to check whether it was just me, but apparently not, each track is in quite a different style. It opened with a track that could have come off The Felice Brothers' newbie, but that was followed by tracks with strings, close harmonies and slow, dramatic ballads. The Australian version includes the single "Mermaid" which is a nice bonus. I think the album is intriguing enough to allow new discoveries with each listen.

The Harrow & the Harvest Gillian Welch

Well worth the wait, ravishing.

You have to figure that 'Gillian Welch' is the name of a band consisting of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, such is the importance of his contribution, both his guitar work and delicate harmonies. God forbid they should ever go their separate ways.

Just finished Last Night On Earth - Noah & The Whale
Just started A Letter From St Paul - The Silencers, a Scottish band I believe who've been around for some time and made some good music without ever really getting much recognition

Had a bit of a mixed bag over the last few days:

Dicks Picks 2 - possible single CD alternative to Live Dead
Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings - if you skip the first track, this really is a superb album IMO
Getz/Gilberto - beautiful smooth bossa nova jazz
New Jersey: Special Edition - I can see Springsteen's influence in their music more clearly now than I could at the time.
? - Anyone that has not heard a Neal Morse album has missed out.
Vol. 2-Jerry Garcia Collection: Let It Rock - just magic!
Bookends - gave this great S&G album a listen after his appearance at Glasto
Live Bait V5 - the free download of 6hrs of music from Phish's website!!

Great minds, indeed, JB. (I almost wrote 'sublime' before opting for 'ravishing'). I do have the Dave Rawlings CD. Did you see them with The Old Crow Medicine Show last year? Don't know if they were in Edinburgh, but would have been worth the trip west if not.

Hunky Dory - David Bowie, amongst his best. Mick Ronson was the bizz, another musician who could do a lot for a tune, played guitar, arranged the strings etc......
