Chris Corned Beef? If Glenn Hughes reckons he can sing, he can sing!

Cornell made one classic album which sounds as good today as it did when it came out (17 years ago?) - TEMPLE OF THE DOG. Best project he ever did by far - check it out Jaimes Moran.

Mrs Spacepig likes Chris Cornell - but then she also likes Marilyn Manson so I don't think we can use that as a recommendation

Great singer but not always the best material - a little bit like Robert Plant at times??

Badmotorfinger - stunning album, great vocals esp New Damage

Incidentally, Jaimes can I recommend you a band called Therion. Their later albums Lemuria/Sirius B & Gothic Kabbalah contain some Cornell style vocals, Very epic & progressive, mixing orchestra, choir & metal. You may like them - at least have a look on YouTube for their cover of Summernight City. Insane!!!

Adam, Have you founded a Therion Appreciation Socierty yet hon? Let me know and I'll sign up. I hope we get membership badges and a monthly newsletter...

I would say Chris Cornell is good, not sure I'd class him as great personally.

Jaimes - I have Temple of the Dog - you really should hear that album as I consider it one of the best rock albums of all time.
Auidoslave' s first album was very good too but can't compare to TOTD.
Never liked Soundgarden very much.

Looks like a waste of time to me this thread then, why pose the question?

jaimes moran says:
because didnt you notice the sound of his voice in the black hole sun song, honesly i think he can sing very good, i mean have you listened to other singers now its all about walling as loud as you can for as long as posible

I agree with those 2 songs Jaimes. Like A Stone will always be a favorite but personally it takes more than that to make someone great. I'm picky.

OK, this is getting silly now. I don't consider myself to be any kind of genius, despite my extensive Uni degrees etc, but I don't consider myself to be too thick either.

Please Jaimes, just what on earth are you trying to tell us in that last post?

Hi K - I wouldn't dare found a Therion appreciation society! The band already has strong links with an occult group cum cult by the name of Dragon Rouge. It would be like inviting the wrath of the masons!!

I saw Soundgarden from the front of the stage on their last tour here just before they quit. They headlined the yearly 'Big Day Out' festival for that year. The boy certainly could howl back then.
I'm actually going to see Cornell on his solo acoustic tour this coming thursday (20/10).

Brass Neck says:
He's excellent at what he does; stentorian anguished bellowing over a stonkin' grungey backing. What he's not is flexible and he doesn't possess a great range so there'll never be a lazy series of American Songbook takes on jazz or soul classics a la Rod Stewart (thank God). Audioslave were initially impressive on the first few listens but then Tom Morello isn't the world's most adept or adaptable guitarist either so the interest waned quite quickly for me. Telephantasm [2CD+DVD] is a pretty good summation of his best work with Soundgarden (available for £8.88 from a trader on Play) or as a much cheaper single disc - Telephantasm - for just £3 which is an absolute steal!!

Nugent Dirt says:
I.e his voice soon gets on one's t*ts after 2 or 3 tracks. Morello qualifies as one of the world's most irritating guitarists. He's nowt more than a frustrated turntablist
