L W KELLOWAY says:
Highly recommend "Stupidity" by Dr Feelgood, "Steppenwolf Live" and "The Cropredy Box" by Fairport Convention.

All the listed albums are great apart from 'The eagle has landed 'which should have been. I couldn't believe it when I bought it, got it home and put it on my turntable it was so quiet. Biff's banter between songs was so low and barely heard yet anyone who had seen Saxon live knew that his voice went right through you. I always kept my stereo at the same level yet on this album I had to turn it up to hear it. I don't know what the producer was thinking about as Saxon were and still are a LOUD! band

yeah great album although I don't know why they added a second version of 'master of the universe' on the remastered CD version.

mr. critic says:
Level 42 "A Physical Presence" = Much more jazz and funk than the girly pop they would later be known for.

Barclay James Harvest "Live Tapes" = Every song is superior to it's studio version

Donny Hathaway "These Songs For You" = Ditto

Miles Davis "Black Beauty" = Ditto

Alison Krauss & Union Station "Live"

Weather Report "8:15"

Azymuth "Live At The Copacabana Palace"

I had that on the other day and was very pleasantly surprised by the quallity of Rodgers singing, he is in fine form on that. I love the stripped down arrangements on it, the heart of the songs really shines out.

A bit like the Radio Stockholm Free recording from 1970, just the bare bones, but what splendid bones they are.

Brass Neck says:
It came from Mick Ralph's tape collection but no fixing was done (some of the backing vox are a bit rough) and Paul Rogers, who would earn nowt from it, took legal action to block it.

The venerable Smitty Werbenjaegermanjensen sorted me out with a copy of Live Albuquerque New Mexico USA 1976 and very good it is too, it really was a blink and you missed it release.

best bones

The briefly issued and hurriedly withdrawn Bad Co Live Albuquerque New Mexico USA 1976 2CD Set is a belter. I can do MP3 if you're keen.

not a great one for live recordings, but the following -
'smell of female' - the cramps
'it's alive' - ramones
'23 minutes in brussels/21 and a half minutes in berlin' - suicide
'live at counter eurovision' - misty in roots
'minimum/maximum' - kraftwerk
'kraftwerk unplugged'

Brass Neck says:
Live From Alabama - Jason Isbell. He was a member of Drive By Truckers for a few albums, excellent americana singer songwriter with a rock edge, really nice version of Like A Hurricane too.

Mr. Richard L. Jones says:
'I tend to avoid live albums recorded in the US as Yank audiences tend to holler and whoop mindlessly during them'

Try Joni Mitchell's Shadows And Light. Pat Metheny is playing a beautiful guitar solo and some lunkhead has to whoop at the top of his lungs in the middle of it.
