The rather incomprehensible film 2001 A Space Oddysey had apes congregating around a large monolith as if it was a kind of spriritual apparition.

I went to the film when it came out... took my then girl friend to the Saturday night showing and found it as you did pretty incomprehensible. I then read the book on the Sunday and went back to see it again Sunday evening and found that it does make sense but you do need to have read the book...

Leonard Rossiter had a small part in it. He played a Russian scientist on the space station. He was so bad that I am unsurprised that Hollywood did not take him up!!

Although today's accepted time scale is scientifically disputable, the central point you raise is very interesting.

You're also spot on historically accurate about the 'Gods' having contacted man only about six thousand years ago.

Take a look at a few of the U-Tube documentaries listed below. The history/religion described is the 'faith' Abraham' and his people took with them out into the desert from Ur and which Moses wrote down as the Torah some four hundred years later. Two thousand years later the Bible developed from the Torah and the Koran from the Bible; so the Sumerian history/religion is the original source of modern religious belief.

These ancient tales explain both the 'creation' of mankind, the reason for this creation, the conflict that developed between the 'Gods' and Mankind, why the Gods 'disappeared', what the Biblical flood legend is/was actually based on and much more.

Is Sitchin's interpretation infallable? obviously not and traditionalists contest his opinions while defending their own; BUT when his version of religion's origin is compared with the ancient Hindu/Indian Vedas, it fits FAR better than the traditional mythic/spiritual version does.

Take a look and remember these words were written down some six thousand plus years ago, often by people who tell us they were there and saw these events with their own eyes.

Very, very unlikely... More likely they were written down from an oral tradition that spanned thousands of generations with all the changes that that would encompass. There is probably some fundamental point in there but buried between retellings. It is about as reliable as reading the Sun.

Reply to Mr. J. P. Doyle,

"Have you read any of his critics? How do you address their objections to his hypothesis? "

Yes I've read many.

My considered opinion is that traditional science/archeology today is behaving exactly as it did when confronted by Darwin's 'new and heretical' theory, some two hundred years ago. Personal attack and suppression of discussion; tactics intended to discredit the 'revolutionary' new theory of Natural Selection, which challenged their entire (and gravely mistaken/innaccurate) orthodoxy.

I'm certain that Sitchin, Von Daniken, David Hatcher Childress, Michael A. Cremo etc... will be regarded by tomorrow's generations, rather as we today regard Galilleo and Charles Darwin.

"Dicebat Bernardus Carnotensis nos esse quasi nanos, gigantium humeris insidentes, ut possimus plura eis et remotiora videre, non utique proprii visus acumine, aut eminentia corporis, sed quia in altum subvenimur et extollimur magnitudine gigantea." - Bernard of Chartres.

I suspect they will be viewed more like Jack Benny, Bob Hop et al... of there time, vaguely amusing but passť...

I wonder if you actually understand what Bernard was saying...

As an ex-teacher, when did you start 'believing' that clay, water polished pebbles, dried up river beds (and quite possibly a living environment?) existed on Mars in past ages Bellatori?

When you heard it on mainstream TV a few days ago?

Objective of 2020 mission to Mars: Signs of life, NASA says. By Chelsea J. Carter, CNN (July 9, 2013).

CNN) -- Life on Mars?

That's the question facing the NASA team responsible for putting together the objectives for 2020 rover mission to Mars.

"We're still on the quest to answer the grand question: Is there life somewhere else in the universe?" John Grunsfeld, NASA's associate administrator for science, told reporters Tuesday in a teleconference.

Previous missions to Mars have found definitive signs that water once flowed in a crater and rock samples that show signs of clay minerals.

"We really needed to go back to the surface, and go to the next stage. ... Did Mars ever have life?" Grunsfeld said as he previewed a 160-page report prepared by the Mars 2020 Science Definition Team, a group assembled by NASA to outline the objectives of the mission.

NASA: Mars could have supported life

Man's next space frontier: Mars
Mars applicants apply here The 2020 rover mission to Mars is considered essential to meeting President Barack Obama's challenge to send a manned mission to the planet in the 2030s.

Among the objectives of the 2020 rover mission will be the search for signs of life, the collection of samples to possibly be returned to Earth and testing technology that may allow for a manned mission to Mars.

Astronauts would face high radiation on Mars trip

"We want to be able to seek signs of life: Had life been there, did it leave a mark?" said Jack Mustard, a member of the development team and a chair and professor of geological sciences at Brown University.

As part of the preparation for the mission, NASA plans to conduct an open competition. It is planned by NASA for the space technology and scientific instruments that will be carried by the rover and used in the mission, according to the report.

In addition to the 2020 mission, NASA is scheduled to launch the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution mission in November 2013. That mission is set to explore the compounds of the Martian atmosphere, which scientists say will offer a glimpse into the planet's climate and habitability.

In 2016, a collaboration between the European Space Agency and Russian Federal Space Agency is expected to launch an ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter -- a mission to map methane and other gases on Mars.

The European and Russian space agencies plan to launch the ExoMars rover in 2018.

"What we have over the next 10 years is a very comprehensive series of international missions to Mars," said Jim Green, director of NASA's Planetary Science Division in Washington."

Sitchin, Von Daniken, David Hatcher Childress, Michael A. Cremo have been saying exactly that for years/decades, basing their ideas on Earthy legends dating from thousands of years ago.

By contrast, You (and others like you) were ridiculing me for suggesting even the possibility, only days before the official NASA announcement.

Education? The very word has been corrupted by 'Politically Correct' liberal/marxist doctrine.

Education today has been largely reduced to mere 'brainwashing'. Persuading the young to accept the failed 1960s ideology of their deluded teachers/Media idols.

Quote:-

"14 Has the Lord ever needed anyone's advice?
Does he need instruction about what is good?
Did someone teach him what is right
or show him the path of justice?
15 No, for all the nations of the world
are but a drop in the bucket.
They are nothing more
than dust on the scales.
He picks up the whole earth
as though it were a grain of sand.
16 All the wood in Lebanon's forests
and all Lebanon's animals would not be enough
to make a burnt offering worthy of our God.
17 The nations of the world are worth nothing to him.
In his eyes they count for less than nothing-
mere emptiness and froth.
18 To whom can you compare God?
What image can you find to resemble him?
19 Can he be compared to an idol formed in a mold,
overlaid with gold, and decorated with silver chains?
20 Or if people are too poor for that,
they might at least choose wood that won't decay
and a skilled craftsman
to carve an image that won't fall down!
21 Haven't you heard? Don't you understand?
Are you deaf to the words of God-
the words he gave before the world began?
Are you so ignorant?
22 God sits above the circle of the earth.
The people below seem like grasshoppers to him!
He spreads out the heavens like a curtain
and makes his tent from them.
23 He judges the great people of the world
and brings them all to nothing.
24 They hardly get started, barely taking root,
when he blows on them and they wither.
The wind carries them off like chaff.

25 "To whom will you compare me?
Who is my equal?" asks the Mighty One." - Isaiah 40: 14-25.

J Doyle says:
We were ridiculing you for suggesting that spacemen came from other planets to create/modify humans on Earth. Nothing in that statement from NASA about the possibility of life existing on Mars vindicates any of your ludicrous suggestions.

Current evolutionary theory and hypotheses perfectly account for their development.

1) Mutations occur
1a) Insertion: While copying DNA an extra neucleic acid is inserted by mistake
ACGTACGT --> ACGGTACGT
1b) Deletion: While copying DNA a neucleic acid is missed
ACGTACGT --> ACTACGT
1c) Duplication: While copying DNA the replication RNA detaches and reattaches earlier repeating a sequence
ACGTACGT --> ACGTACCGTACGT
1d) Inversion: While copying DNA segments are joined the wrong way round
ACGTACGT--> ACCAGTGT
1e) Point Mutation: While copying DNA the wrong nucleotide is used
ACGTACGT --> ACGTGCGT

2)These mutations cause different genes to exist.
2a) Genes are read in sets of 3 letters starting at ATG and ending at one of (TAA, TAG, TGA).
2b) Each set of three letters codes for a specific amino acid.

3) Different genes cause different proteins to be made
3a) Proteins are chains of amino acids.
3b) The chemical properties of each amino acid cause the shape that the chain folds into (sometimes enzymatically assisted)

4) Different Proteins cause different results in the body.

5) Different results in the body have different reproductive propensity.

6) The survival differential of different results in the body equates to a survival differential of genes, so the proportion of genes in a population changes.

There, accounts for arrival and prosperity of unique genes.
