"which real world? the dog-eat-dog one? the "kill-him-before-he-kills-me" one?" - GTL, although many of us refuse to accept it, that is the ONLY world we live in.

Spin says:
Pop: I have no objection to violent video games being played by kids at the appropriate age but I object to the idea of using violent video games to "let off steam". Too often kids, and indeed some adults, will fail to distinguish between fantasy and reality. Playing violent video games does not help let off steam, it simply compounds the frustration at not being able to physically engage in violence. As entertainment, I have no objection to such games but I do not agree with using them as a remedy for a psychological or emotional disturbance.

Spin, who even mentioned kids? I'm a 23 year old.

Pop: I did also mention adults, if you care to notice. But I despair at a 23 year old recommending a violent FPS as a means to "let off steam"...

"Playing violent video games does not help let off steam"

It does actually. Google it. Science has said so.

Would you insist it be that way, if any sought peace instead?

another question. if, as you say, dog-eat-dog was the only thing that existed, would your heart necessarily have to be in it?

Kod: When you say "Science says so", are you saying that we treat everyone, from those with mood swings or aggressive tendencies to those who are disturbed, violent criminals, by telling them to play the latest edition of "Modern Warfare"? And if a person wants to let off steam, is not a physical sport more appropriate than fantasing about killing people?

Sport ?? pah !!
Who wants to do sport when you can sit on your ass and let your frustrations out through a video game.
If you're too tense from stress when you exercise you might do yourself a bother, then you'll be crippled and angry !! And then you'll HAVE to go and vent on the ps3.
It's much easier to let go of that desire to blow your bosses brains away while blowing a cartoon nazi's brains away than it is by dropping and doing 20.

BECAUSE only some seek peace, the world remains the dog eat dog world it always has been. Human nature, we've been through this before I'm sure.
