Hi Hugh,

I enjoyed it, Oh yes, new favorite, great song! Contrast in a different form, misery with a happy melody. We have a catchy tune over hear I don't know if it has reached you, but it is about an abused boy whose father is an alcoholic and the boy takes his father's gun.....

The words sound like they are from an old record but that's the way it was intended to sound. The song was meant to bring awareness about school shootings, in case you haven't heard this, pumped up kicks are those expensive tennis shoes that you can pump air into. I feel almost guilty singing to it because the tune is so happy and the whistling makes it even better.

No problem. Be my guest.

Hi DB,

Yes, I have s song in mind but I want to listen to it first to make sure it's exactly what I want you to hear, but in the meantime I have a poem that I really like:

Dont Quit!

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road youre trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Dont give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victors cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when youre hardest hit
Its when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Hi Diane,

One of my favorites is, "Let it rise" it's a simple song but it is very uplifting, in fact it's hard not to raise your hands while listening to it. I found one with pretty background scenery for you:

Diane,

I read somewhere that you are a grandmother, I don't know how old your grandchildren are but if you can read books to them I have a really inspirational children's book called, "All is well." I can read most of it out loud but when I get to a particular page I can't read it without choking up so my son used to take it from me and ask if he could read the page for me.

All is Well, The miracle of Christmas in July by Frank Peretti

It is well with my soul, is also a favorite song of mine, it cleanses my soul when I listen to it. When I used to attend church the pastor's mom, who was in her 80"s would sing it, believe me I reached for a tissue very quickly. I'll see if I can find a good version of it, be back shortly.

I found one that tells the story behind the meaning of this song, "It is well with my soul" in need of a tissue as I write this:

thanks for the book reference. I've looked it up, and it is definitely one I would like to read.
I hadn't heard of Frank Peretti, is he an American author?
I enjoyed the 'Don't Quit' poem too. It is good to read something positive on here occasionally.
I will try to find the 'Let it Rise' song now.

thanks again

Diane

This is quite a story and song.
Spafford had more than his share of hardship in his life.
His faith is amazing.

The 'Let it rise' song is what I'd call a 'happy clappy' song. We sometimes sing hymns that are similar to this, especially when we are celebrating, or in a big group. I enjoy the swaying and clapping. It puts a smile on peoples faces.
In Lourdes, all the kids we take get together and do movements and dances to the hymns. This year they did a hymn just by 'signing'. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Beautiful!

Best wishes
Diane

Hi Diane,

I'm glad that you enjoyed them. Sometimes I rely on other people's faith to get me through my hard times. When I look at how they got through their hardships it helps me to think that I can get through mine too.

I don't know if Frank Peretti is an American author, I never thought about it before, I saw the book in a Christian book store and I loved it so I bought it. I usually browse through the children's books until I find one that makes me feel something, laugh or cry, then I know that, that is the book I must buy.

I rely on everything that is available when times of trouble come around. Every poem, song, one liners.....it all helps!

When my son was little he was in a few musical plays where the children were taught sign language to the words of songs, and it gave me goosebumps and tears just watching those little children singing and signing, just loved it.

I'm a little mellow dramatic so anything that is charismatic works well with me, happy clappy or deeply moving.

I really love, "Forever young" I'll go find it now:

(R. Stewart/J.Cregan/K.Savigar)

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever Young, Forever Young
