Jim Guest says:
But everyone believes, especially 'atheists'.

F Cadell says:
Thou art Peter, and on this rock I will found my Church. As for Jim Guest and F Cadell, well they are quite alike and should stop foruming and get on with being good people empowered by the teaching and every day blessings of Jesus. Yes??

Bob Atkinson says:
very interesting point about the constituency.

Just a quick question, if you say Jesus IS "the God" and not any separate parts... to whom was he praying to in the garden?

That has confused me for some time.

Jim Guest says:
"You are rock, and upon this Rock I will build my church."

Jim Guest says:
Fair enough. He was praying to himself in his timeless, supernal, omnipotent and omniscient existence.

Bob Atkinson says:
A subtle yet powerful difference.

To found something, means to start something new.

To build something... means to enforce, or "grow on".

Hee hee.

Petros.

Bob Atkinson says:
ok, an interesting theory. But omniscient pragmatics creates all sorts of paradoxes.

so why would a timeless, supernal, omnipotent and omniscient being pray to himself?

Apart from showing humility, I can't think of anything else.

Maybe humility was the whole point?

Dear child,

Blue is Green, ok?

Yes, Dad! (makes mental note that Dad is a nutter).

F Cadell says:
The Holy Trinity. The founding community. God is dynamic.

Jim Guest says:
Jesus used two different words for 'rock' that Catholics twist to their own purpose. He was saying that the confession that Jesus was the Messiah, whoever said it, was the basis of the church.

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Apr 2012 12:38:21 BDT
Bob Atkinson says:
Dynamic but not equal in parts?...

"for the Father is greater than I"

It has been argued, that because Jesus was in a man-form, that is the reason for his lower status than the father.

But where does it mention that reason in the bible? Where does it say,

"God's who take on the form of man, are lesser by status, than God's who remain in Heaven"

F Cadell says:
The confession that Jim is the Rock who alone never twists the truth. Hee hee.

Jim Guest says:
Because he's temporal, mortal, lacking power and knowledge. Tempted in every way as we are. He cannot be claimed to have been perfect if he cheated.

It's all systematic, and rational. (But it's systematic corruption with the RCC.)

'Where does it say,

"God's who take on the form of man, are lesser by status, than God's who remain in Heaven" '

See Hebrews and Philippians.

'Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!' Php 2:5-8 NIV

RD: Indeed, I am aware that its all "labels". Science is the art of isolating and labelling phenomena. However, the phenomena to which such labels refer are still a mystery. Indeed the fundamental concept and definition of "force" is problematic.

"Indeed the fundamental concept and definition of "force" is problematic. "
Problematic in some senses, not in others. A force is merely a label for interaction between two things causing or inhibitng motion. We don't have a great concept of what they actually are, but they are labelled by what they do.

But then you don't need reminding - the Holy Spirit was there at Creation also (hovering over the waters).

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Apr 2012 19:30:27 BDT
Well the convincing is only likely to happen through the Holy Spirit, part of whose task is to guide you into the truth.

Which is the nature of the trinity

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Apr 2012 19:33:05 BDT
Word with a capital 'W' - the Logos - I think that it was something to do with Greek theology, that the Logos was the creator or something. Hence the Word not the word. All makes sense now, doesn't it :)
