i would love originally mastered recordings of 'heart of the congos' and 'return of the super ape', although love the available versions - is it time for this, or should it be left to the perry 'mystique'?

ok. i'll talk to myself for a wee while - since initial post i have acquired a copy of ' ape-ology, upon which, the sound/mastering on 'return of the super ape' is the best i have heard so far. unless anyone knows different.
as for 'heart of the congos', i have the 'go feet' vinyl and the 'vp' cd, which appear to have the same master - i would like to be further informed of different/better masters. i believe island records hold the originals.

Brass Neck says:
Blood & Fire's version is superbly mastered and extended to 2 discs Heart Of The Congos

Great reissue label for which we have in part to thank ...... Mick bloody hucknall!

Don't think actual master tapes exist for most classic reggae, B&F remaster from vinyl (but do it really well). Let's not forget Perry burnt Black Ark down.

BTW, don't go expecting much of a response on a reggae thread,

Brass Neck says:
ALL Blood & Fire stuff is out of print now so prices can be very high but good second hand copies come up at reasonable money if you look around.

More Perry/Black Ark stuff with good sound;

Sipple Out Deh: The Black Ark Years less than 6

'sipple out deh' is a cracking collection, and a superb companion set to 'Disco Devil' - some great quality on there. i think a great one shop buy would be these two plus 'ape-ology' as a potted history of the ark - 6 discs for about 25, trojan doing a good job there. 'arkology'. i will get round to, but have a lot of stuff on it.

for any contributions you might want to make to this thread, it will currently be more widely read and discussed on 'reggae/dub forum roadshow' on the 'music' forum. cheers.
