MC Zaptone says:
YES..........It's back. Season 5 of 'The Weekly Punt' an entertaining interactive football prediction game that's open to everyone. It doesn't matter if you're a budding football pundit or just like a simple bit of pot-luck fun. COME AND GIVE IT A GO.

***NEW FEATURE***
Each week when you post your League table simply add the letters DP (double punt) next to one of your teams and you will score double the points for that teams position & goal difference. If your score is zero, that's what you'll get....a big fat zero but ONLY for that teams points. The rest is EXACTLY the same as last year.

GAME & RULES:

GO TO:

http://www.thesportspredictor.com/#/predictor/pro?_f_mp=true

OR FOLLOW THE LINK FROM: The mustard.com

Bookmark it for ease of use, week on week.

Simply fill in the scores of the games (that are posted here every week)
and then press the 'Update Table' button. The Premier league table will magically adjust and will now show all the teams positions based on your predictions.
We then post (back here) the TOP SIX and the BOTTOM THREE teams - their league position and their goal difference (GD) we are not interested in how many league points they have.

**NOTE: If a team does not feature on the BBC predictor in one of the nine (9) league positions that we are punting on (1st to 6th then 18;19 & 20th) NO points will be awarded.

ONE point awarded for every correct team position and TWO points for correctly guessing their Goal Difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THAT'S IT. SIMPLE AND FUN.
We then add everybody's weekly scores and I post the results in the form of a league table.

**HOLIDAY PUNTS: I try to get all 20 teams games in every week, Sky have reintroduced Monday night footy and occasionally we get a Tuesday game but in general we try to avoid midweek games. We don't punt on the International and F.A. Cup weekends. So if you are going on holiday please feel free to punt ahead with the date of each individual punt (don't forget to 'update table' between each week) As you won't know the exact games we are punting on while you are away you might miss out on a game or two but at least you will get some points.

**ABSENTEE PUNTS due to illness/caring for others. We will implement the Lez's Punt system
Ie. Whoever is absent, their next weekly punt will be a duplicate copy of this weeks winner's next punt (plus 1 point for good measure).

**POSTPONED OR CANCELLED MATCHES** If a match that appears on the BBC predictor is cancelled for any reason punters will receive 2 points 'in lieu' of points lost for that particular game. 2 postponed games will accrue 4 points and so on.

So, welcome back to all last years participants (please notice it's the TOP 6 and BOTTOM 3 teams again this season) and a big hello to new Punters. Please do not hesitate to ask questions.

WELCOME ALONG & GOOD LUCK

Looks like The Mustard has been moved here:

Website doesn't work properly on my work computer though so I can't tell for certain.

Needless to say I'm in.

RABB says:
Right, done this by hand which is a bit dodgy as I have a few teams on the same GD, so I've gone by goals scored then alphabetically after that:

1) Liverpool +5
2) Chelsea +4
3) United +3 (DP)
4) Arsenal +2
5) Hull +2
6) City +2

18) Swansea -3
19) Burnley -4
20) Southampton -5

In reply to an earlier post on 12 Aug 2014 11:52:01 BDT
that works absolutely fine, rab. i'm in 'n' here's my attempt. i'll adopt the toffees again (gaun naisy!), but early prediction - convinced that man utd will win league at a canter.

1 - arsenal +4
2 - chelsea +3
3 - man utd +2 - DP
4 - sunderland +2
5 - liverpool +1
6 - everton +1

18 - west brom -2
19 - burnley -3
20 - c. palace -4

cheers mc, hope all is well with you, and all who punt.

MC Zaptone says:
*******IMPORTANT NOTICE********
Please read the opening post where I have placed info on a NEW FEATURE for this season. tech has nailed it in one!!
That means RAB needs to put the letters DP (Double Punt) next to one of his teams to earn double the points for that particular team, in this particular week.
For instance RAB could put:
4) Arsenal +2 DP
OR
18) Swansea -3 DP

I'm not experiencing any trouble with the new predictor BUT it's worth noting that you ignore the plus/minus signs and just enter the scores in the middle boxes. Your prediction will be shown in the left hand table and presumably the actual League Table will be the one on the right.

Please let me know how you get on.

MC - Do we HAVE to do the Double Punt or can we opt not to? ;-)

RABB says:
My bad MC! Since changed it to have United on double points.

Tech, I think you're being very kind to us mate. For me it's Chelsea's league to lose if they keep Costa fit. They've got the most balanced squad in the league, moulded to Jose's liking, and they all seem to be happy to be there. City will run them close though.

United on the other hand, will be nowhere near it, and if we fail to sign a defender this summer, we'll be lucky to make the top four, which should be the primary objective this season. I think we'll be as dangerous going forward as any team now van Gaal's found a system that will fit Mata, Rooney and RVP all in their best positions, but going into a season with plans to play three at the back with only three defenders in the squad (not counting Keane and Blackett, youth players who've done okay in preseason but aren't ready for the first team yet) is just asking for trouble. The system is working but all three of our defenders aren't without their injury problems and Smalling just isn't good enough in my opinion. I'll be disappointed if we don't have a proper go at winning the FA Cup though.

the prophet hath spake, rab, he who foresaw the german triumph in the world's cup.............................same man who says kilmarnock will win the league every year. :)

MC Zaptone says:
Lez, of course you can choose to forfeit a few extra points but as there is no penalty in placing the letters DP after one of your efforts, I don't see quite why you wouldn't?!

In reply to an earlier post on 12 Aug 2014 19:57:23 BDT
Lez Lee says:
Sorry, I completely misunderstood it and somehow thought that team's score was void if you got it wrong. Put it down to my advanced years!

No probs. Lez! Lol.

3) Man Utd +2
4) Man City +2
5) Arsenal +2
6) Stoke +2

18) C.Palace -2

Can't wait, as good as the World Cup was this year, nothing beats the excitement of the premiership imo. Good to see you back MC, hope things are going in the right direction for you!? Game on, COYS!! Good luck everyone. :-)

MC would you like me to mention this on the music forum to attract more punters, or are you happy with the number already participating?

In reply to an earlier post on 12 Aug 2014 21:47:08 BDT
MC Zaptone says:
Hi TheFoe, Im heading the right way but not quite 100% yet.
I'm hoping for at least a dozen punters but don't want to spend all day totting up scores!
Mention it and let's see what occurs. I'll stick it up on Val's page too.
Cheers mate

Hi MC, glad to hear that your health is improving - hope that continues to happen. Here's my first effort;

1 Chelsea +3
2 Man Utd +3
3 Arsenal +2
4 Hull +2
5 Stoke +2 DP
6 Liverpool +2

18 Aston Villa -2
19 Burnley -3
20 Swansea -3

I've assumed alphabetical order will come into place for those on the same GD

Good luck everyone

MC Zaptone says:
Ask about guys with my punt it makes 6, we need at least double to make it worthwhile.
Are the usual suspects lurking around the threads?

1) Chelsea +3 DP
2) Liverpool +3
3) Man. United +2
4) Arsenal +2
5) Man. City +1
6) Spurs +1

18) Palace -2
19) Burnley -3
20) Southampton -3

***To answer David's question, I'd input your punt exactly as the predictor suggests as it will always put goals scored & concede into the equation before relying on alphabetical order.

Come on gang get 'em in.

Similarly, RedAl is on his annual jaunt to Blighty - away for three weeks I think he said. He has had problems with computer access on previous trips back home.

Lez Lee says:
1) Chelsea +2
2) Liverpool +2
3) Man. City +2
4) Spurs +2
5) Arsenal +1 DP
6) Everton +1

18) Newcastle -2
20) Soton -2
19) West Ham −2

Good to see you improving MC

I will be punting MC but still plucking up the courage to decide how I am going to rate Leicester's chances this week or any other week for that matter. Punting on a team in the Premiership I support is a whole new experience but am pleased to see that so far they have not appeared in anybody's bottom three YET!!! I will be back later.
