Track 26 of the Motown/Funk/Soul/Disco thread now open for nominations. Seems I might just get another 5 squeezed in after all!

Since we haVE a further 5 to play with, the first three will be the other segments of the title...beginning with FUNK! Once again, no renominations for this round, if it's on the list below then please find another! Going to leave it up to your discretion as to what qualifies as Funk, think this has been going long enough now that you dig! Whilst there is a healthy modern funk scene at present, would say that drum and bass and the like doesn't really cut it.

And if you want to know what's been nominated before look here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/pop/ref=cm_cd_et_up_redir?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=FxXLVY06NHMPYZ&cdPage=1&cdThread=Tx1VUARORMN2S39&newContentID=Mx3GFWX2KDZ5K2Y#Mx3GFWX2KDZ5K2Y

Please ensure you add one YouTube video link to your nomination and have your nominations in place by SATURDAY evening (28th JUNE) at 11.00 pm!

Nominating is only half the task, please remember to return and vote too. As with the last voting procedure, your nomination will only count if you do the voting bit too please. If you're pushed for time, post your scores (let's be honest with usually 10-11 tracks it doesn't take long) and someone will add them.

As with other threads a bit of help with the playlist would be appreciated. I will continue to post this, Phil is doing a great job with these for pretty much all the threads running - having been there and done that I know it's good when someone else takes some of the load now and again!

Please list your FUNK tracks below....

I'm not entirely sure what "Funk" is so I hope this qualifies. I looked at my own CD selection and found "All Time Greatest Funky Album" - a 2CD set so good it doesn't even get a mention here on Zon. I chose this track:

Fantastic Voyage - Lakeside

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1YjmXSyHa8

It sounds pretty funky to me but I'm happy to change if anyone challenges it.

It's just the one track guys, and as it's mentioned in the title I reckon one as a headliner isn't too much of a hardship. Better get thinking on Soul and Disco then...! :-)

i can take a hint, al, tho' i stubbornly maintain that 'what we all want' and indeed the entire 'solid gold' album are big chunky slabs of funk (in my book, anyway) :)

Get down my man...or rather thank you PB!

Nominations over...voting opens in a few. Very disappointed that only 8 nominations offered, shouldn't really be out of anyone's comfort zone given the music genres in the title. Hey ho....at least there's some quality tracks guys...well done!

Just butting in to let any fans of this genre (mainly soul) know of a 4-CD set I bought on eBay which I consider a bargain. Contains both well-known/lesser-known tracks and has a real early-70s vibe.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Various-Black-Gold-4CDs-/291020790238?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item43c230d9de#ht_1451wt_1190

There's two available at £4.50 with free postage in the UK from good ol' estocks. Overseas postage for me was £1.50 (cheap as chips!)

The four discs come in a very large presentation box which estocks managed to package superbly.

This is what allmusic says:

A box set CD comprising 61 tracks of quality soul from Philly, New Jersey, the South, and points elsewhere for your delight. The bulk of the tracks were recorded by Philadelphia International Records, with the All Platinum family of labels running a distant second. Chicago soul from the Chi-lites and the Dells, and tracks from Michael Henderson, Melba Moore, Ruby Turner, Joe Tex, and others make this a good addition to your CD collection, featuring a wealth of great songs in one package.
