My eldest daughter - aged 16 - is currently into the likes of Madeleine Peyroux, Adele, Rumer, Cee Lo Green and Elbow. My latest purchases are the new release from dubstep/d & b combo Chase & Status and the new Arena Drum & Bass comp. Something wrong here. Just wondering whether any other parents here have had a virtual 'Big' type body swap with their kids?

The stuff you buying is probably pretty old hat to the average 16 year old. Stop kidding yourself Nuge time to don slippers, cardie, chew on the pipe and admit you've become a BOF

Nuge - I'm surprised at how often I find myself complaining to my kids that the music they're listening to is wet, limp or boring. I'd love them to play something I thought was too noisy.

Yeah Grandad Nuge, think yer hip with yer drum'n'bass? Mind you daughter does sound a bit pipe, slippers and Radio 2!
I've given up trying to get my 17 year old lad to listen to the good old stuff, but I do try to steer him away from his one-track emo/screamo stuff (he's big on Bullet For My Valentine, 30 Seconds From Mars, etc). From about 14 he would go with us to any gig regardless and once there would desperately hanker after a t-shirt even though he clearly wasn't into the band beforehand and certainly didn't play them much afterwards. Recently he turned his nose up at what I knew would be a corking gig - Jim Jones Revue which was a full on rock'n'roll blast.
The only 'success' I've had with him was to pass him the Naked & Famous (NZ indie/electro) album which has made it to his iPod.
There was also a stellar role-reversal a few weeks ago when I was playing a Rush live dvd on the surround sound with the wick well up when into the room bursts irate man-child angrily spluttering, 'Do you realise just how loud that is father ...'!
Kids today ... boooring!

"you've become a BOF" ........... `fookin' hell Peter that's totally out of order comparing me to Nugent 'Peter Pan' Dirt, the man who never grew up. You're off my Christmas card list and to think I've sent you some quality music. Meh!!!!!

Not one of Terry's BOFs, though, surely?

Well Nuge, my kids are well into their 30s now, but when they were younger, both son and daughter were a chip off the old block in their teens, with both into rock of some sort of another. Both had a leaning towards US music initially, but then my daughter went to see bands like Radiohead (in their very early days) and Osric Tentacles. The whole dance/electronica/drum and bass thing completely passed them by.

I now have grandchildren into Lady Gaga etc - don't you love 'em!

My point exactly GD. It was'nt long ago that teens and 20 somethings were buying up all that lame singer-songwriter dreck e.g. James Morrison, Paolo Nutini and Jack Johnson.
MY-nah.. Dubstep is where it's at these days. My taste in D & B veers towards the ambient, Liquid and jazzier end of the spectrum not the hardcore stuff
CD - see even you might even appreciate some of this. It's not all in-yer face noise.
