Babyshambler says:
Apparently, Wink Martindale was offered to host the show, 'The Joker Is Willd', but was unable, due to other commitments.
Frank Sinatra appeared in the film, 'The Joker Is Wild', he also sang the song, 'They Came To Cordura', which was also a film starring Gary Cooper.

Gary Cooper starred in 'High Noon', the theme song was sung by Tex Ritter, who also recorded a version of 'The Deck Of Cards',
which was also recorded by Wink Martindale.

Wink was the host of a TV quiz show called 'Gambit'. This was also the name of a film starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. Shirley was in 'Being There' with Peter Sellers. (Or alternatively, Peter Sellers was responsible for the 'Not a lot of people know that' catchphrase when he used it while doing an impression of Michael Caine on Parky.)

Excellent work nc. I should give you that one really, but mine has a different film with a musical link. The first link is also a different game show.

Peter Sellers to Paddington Bear

Posted on 30 Aug 2012 23:32:05 BDT
RedAlFire says:
When Peter Sellers was making The Pink Panther Strikes Again at Shepperton Studios he decided he wanted a Paddington Bear. Not just any Paddington Bear you understand. This one had to have the exact colour combination of coat, hat and wellies which Sellers could see in his minds eye. Some poor sod was then made to trudge in and out of Hamleys, John Lewis, Selfridges, Harrods and the other West end stores where there were Paddington Bears aplenty - but no-one had the right costume mix to fit the bill. You'd get the hat and coat and the wellies would be wrong; the wellies and the hat would be correct and the (naughty word) duffel would be the wrong shade. In despair Seller's minion tried to bribe Harrods toy department; "look why can't we swap the hat on this one for the boots on that?" Harrods would have none of it. After three days of wandering and persistence, the props buyer tracked the ideal blend of outfits down to a little shop in Flask Walk, near Hampstead Heath. Sellers of course, ungraciously, shoved the thing in the corner of his caravan and never looked at it.

From The Life and Death of Peter Sellers by Roger Lewis, chapter 12 'The spirit of romance'.

On Julie Andrews 'My Favourite Things' 1975 Special, Pete Sellers appeared in a comedy sketch as a crazy German psychiatrist with a fixation on a Paddington Bear doll. Because of copyright problems, he was requested not to actually say the name Paddington Bear. This was a red rag to a bull! The hilarious sketch, a third of which was ad libbed, resulted in Paddington Bear being heavily featured and mentioned.

My friend's mum used to make Paddingtons and was doing a roaring trade 'til some rotten sod reported her. She was threatened with prosecution as you had to have a licence to make them.

Blimey, Al , you're a positive fount of fascinating facts. And as for your mum's friend, Lez, she got what was coming to her; there have to be rules, you know, otherwise mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.

I think this is one that you could get without looking stuff up, inasmuch as I'll bet you know all the pertinent facts already. It's just a case of putting them togther.
