Captain, some of these take days and days (and on the odd occasion weeks) to solve. That's the essence of it, the maze of the links.

There's clearly a few connections but the one I was looking for was, in 2008, Jay-Z signed a $150 million contract with the concert promotion company Live Nation. This super deal created a joint venture called Roc Nation, an entertainment company that handles nearly all aspects of its artists' careers. In addition to Jay-Z himself, Roc Nation manages Willow Smith among others. Willow Smith being Will Smith's daughter. But I tip my hat off to the other links, the last one I didn't know about.

If it is a one step link...

Jay-Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have signed on as producers of the new Broadway musical "Fela!"

That is true, but not the connection I'm looking for.

Jay Z covered 'It's A Hard Knock Life' from 'Annie'; the film is to be remade and was to have starred Willow Smith in the title role (although I believe it's now going to be the girl from 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' with the name I can never remember); Willow Smith is the daughter of Will Smith.

Not quite, although you're in the right area.

They are collaborating in the production of a new film version of 'Annie'?

Ahhh...the thing is Captain, you have to start with the last part of the previous set (that'll be Jay-Z) and link him as circuitously as you like to another person or suchlike.

Sorry, but that's the way it is I'm afraid. ;-)

Chris Penn appears as a bartender in Jay-Z's video "Can I Get A..." which was on the soundtrack to the film "Rush Hour" which featured Chris Penn.

Um....I got a bit excited there...right actor, but there is a more direct link from Chris Penn to Jay-Z.

Babyshambler says:
Chris Penn brother of Sean Penn, who appeared in 'Carlito's Way', which had it's dialogue sampled in 'Brooklyn's Finest', a Jay-Z track.

Spot on with the tune & film Babys...but not with John Lithgoe...another actor...

Babyshambler says:
Deniece Williams had a hit with 'Let's Hear It For The Boy', which also featured in the soundtrack to the film 'Footloose', which starred John Lithgoe, who also appeared in 'Dreamgirls', which starred Beyonce, who is married to Jay-Z.
