It is always important for our mental-emotional-physical health that we are both in touch with and harmonious with the reality of our lives. Much as I would prefer that the UK was run under Soviet lines with an all encompassing state and 5 year plans that is NOT reality...therefore I adjust...applying the principles of "internal state control"....

The rule I apply is "If you can't join 'em, beat 'em"....therefore I cheerfully, happily and joyously play the capitalist game of profits...profits....profits...always driving costs down...increasing margins and sell....sell....sell...

Be water my friends....flow...remember water can be solid, liquid or gas...water adapts...we all must....

Communism - where its ok for those at the politburo to be more equal than others...

It doesn't work -
Totally free money being an essential plank of socialist fiscal policy, but someone has to earn it first.

And don't forget - Hitler was a mere tyro compared to Stalin when it came to mass annihilation of your own and other's populations.

Simon,

...water adapts...we all must...consume...consume...consume...

Gordon...AKA "Hitchen-hopper".....you seem stuck in a digital world....yes...we all consume...that is NOT the question nor the issue....I have to consume food, drink...I need heat and light...it is how much do we consume...?....

In reply to an earlier post on 9 May 2012 10:57:43 BDT
Mr Martin. Why not comment on the thread rather than making useless and irrelevant comments?

Simon, I agree, that's why I wrote 'consume' thrice with dots after it, like consume on and on and and on...world without end.

As a good capitalist you are helping that relentless quest for more growth with the sole purpose of consumption, the driving force of the modern world:

'Do I really, really need these organic vit sups Mr Boyd?'
"Oh yus my dear lady, they will go straight through you without touching the sides leaving you revitalised, like a spring lamb"

'Oi you Simon mate, will this praaaaaten paaaada give me a body like that Jackie Lee?'
"Oh yus mate bigger pecs than Holland and Barratt gear, guaranteed. or your money back, honest. Gethin Jenkins is a wimp and a prat, honest"

'Mr Boyd you are such a kind, caring, sharing, helpful man - you don't try to sell me just help me buy, buy birdie, bye bye.'
"Thank you, I'm a zen-capitalist you know. Please tell your friends. BTW I've been on The Big Questions"

"Good morning sir, how can I ingratiate myself to you this fine day?"

I sincerely hope you don't lose your roots and donate bars of soap and sedatives to those wild-eyed tramps who flog Socialist Worker. Always getting them mixed up with Big Issue sellers.

Q: What happened after the Sahara desert went Communist?

A: Nothing at all for ten years, then a shortage of sand.

Simon,

Ooooh errr...you're a poet.

Didn't you once say poetry was crap?

In reply to an earlier post on 9 May 2012 18:44:41 BDT
Gordon...I may write words you label poetry....however the label can never be a correct semantic structure...sorry...

In reply to an earlier post on 9 May 2012 19:55:01 BDT

Oh dear - makes you wonder how the Soviets managed to double output in 20 years, doesn't it, without all those mighty useful conservatory salesmen to tax?

Spin says:
Why do people equate Communism with Soviet Totalitarianism? The two are completely unrelated, yet mention Communism and all one hears is stories about a political system that died because of its corruption of Communism. Doesn't anybody understand the relevence of Communism today? No thought for the Communist ideology behind Religion and Science? Only Soviets and North Koreans, eh?

Only in the fantasies of would-be communists' heads, I'm afraid. Korea and the USSR are what happened when people tried to implement communism. If it was tried again, there's no reason on earth not to expect the same to happen again.

Spin says:
Gille: So you would say that the Socialism of today, in both politics, and everyday considerations of life as is, has nothing to do with Communism? Societal morality, politics and practice developed independently of the works of Marx? Social considerations in all areas of life are removed from the ideology of "Communism"?

Nice to see everyone ignore the topic and babble on....and on...egos a flowing...

gille liath says:
When you talk about communism you're talking about a type of regime, and a type that has failed - though we can all build castles in the air and say it'll be completely different next time. The influence of Marxist-style thought has nothing to do with communism per se - it really originated with Hegel anyway - and for that matter I'm far from sure it's been a good thing. It has plunged a lot of the academic world into an incorrigible vagueness that can't tell reality from metaphor.

Gille...you may think better if you stop using language that boosts your sense that "you know"...you know nothing about the ......

Spin says:
Gille: Sorry, you misunderstand me. When I talk of "Communism" I talk of the ideology, the philosophy, not a regime using communism to further its nationalistic ends. In fact, you may accuse me of being "Marxist", and I will agree. but I reject given the current definition of "Communism" as put forward by Western Capitalists and Liberals,. Just as the West equates Fascism with Nazism, so it equates Communism with Totalitarianism. Societal beliefs that will take more than a few of my posts to rectify..
