Being a successful communist in the capitalist world - Working with reality.

It is always important for our mental-emotional-physical health that we are both in touch with and harmonious with the reality of our lives. Much as I would prefer that the UK was run under Soviet lines with an all encompassing state and 5 year plans that is NOT reality...therefore I adjust...applying the principles of "internal state control"....

The rule I apply is "If you can't join 'em, beat 'em"....therefore I cheerfully, happily and joyously play the capitalist game of profits...profits....profits...always driving costs down...increasing margins and sell....sell....sell...

Be water my friends....flow...remember water can be solid, liquid or gas...water adapts...we all must....

Why do people equate Communism with Soviet Totalitarianism? The two are completely unrelated, yet mention Communism and all one hears is stories about a political system that died because of its corruption of Communism. Doesn't anybody understand the relevence of Communism today? No thought for the Communist ideology behind Religion and Science? Only Soviets and North Koreans, eh?

Only in the fantasies of would-be communists' heads, I'm afraid. Korea and the USSR are what happened when people tried to implement communism. If it was tried again, there's no reason on earth not to expect the same to happen again.

Societal morality, politics and practice developed independently of the works of Marx? Social considerations in all areas of life are removed from the ideology of "Communism"?

When you talk about communism you're talking about a type of regime, and a type that has failed - though we can all build castles in the air and say it'll be completely different next time. The influence of Marxist-style thought has nothing to do with communism per se - it really originated with Hegel anyway - and for that matter I'm far from sure it's been a good thing. It has plunged a lot of the academic world into an incorrigible vagueness that can't tell reality from metaphor.

Gille: Sorry, you misunderstand me. When I talk of "Communism" I talk of the ideology, the philosophy, not a regime using communism to further its nationalistic ends. In fact, you may accuse me of being "Marxist", and I will agree. but I reject given the current definition of "Communism" as put forward by Western Capitalists and Liberals,. Just as the West equates Fascism with Nazism, so it equates Communism with Totalitarianism. Societal beliefs that will take more than a few of my posts to rectify..
