ASDA. Sainbury's. McDonalds etc...these are the real benefits cheats...paying just over £6.00 per hour so their employees HAVE to claim benefits....

Isn't it time for a REAL minumum/living wage...say £10.00 per hour?

Personally I think that supermarkets should actually live up to all that rhetoric they give us about operating in a difficult economic climate by running their business in a way which is financially viable. If they could do that, perhaps the CEO's would deserve a decent bonus - rather than an obscene one, which is currently the case.

And while you're at it, what are Sainsbury's profits as a percentage of turnover? What do you say would be reasonable profits?

Sainsbury's staff could work for more dosh at Aldi or Lidl...but they would have to work a lot harder.

Sainsbury's customers could shop there too and pay 20% less but they choose not to.

How many of Sainsbury's staff are on the minimum wage? Any idea?

If the minimum wage is keeping wages down below the market wage then it should be removed.

Your evasion of my question is noted, so I'll ask it again.

You, me and every other taxpayer is being made an unwilling benefactor of Sainsbury's and other low-pay companies. Does that sound reasonable to you? A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice.

Sainsbury's is actually more of a decent employer than the likes of Asda,
I have worked as a HGV driver for both and the wages and culture are far superior at Sainsbury's,
granted the shop staff may not be on huge wages, but there was a more relaxed feeling at the Sainsbury's stores I delivered to, whereas Asda staff were always at loggerheads with the management including the Asda depot where I was based,
