Spin. We have agreed on something. That took a while. Had to happen some day. Still think the Turin Shroud is not the winding sheet of Jesus though.

You haven't heard that crock of s... before? It's a slightly different story in every mining area. In Northumberland he had the army shoot them while they were running away. The ones that were captured were lined up and blindfolded ready for the firing squad until a last minute phonecall from WC who had changed his mind. Oh yes my grandad was up against the wall. Probably a case of the very first urban myth I'm afraid. Sowwy.

Only two things should induce shame in any patriotic Brit:

The BNP

Champagne marmite.

There are no historical facts to back up your story: I am merely pointing out the fact that it is a complete myth. Check it out if you like but please not on that idiotic Wikipedia.

Plenty of facts here,

Maybe you should check out facts before posting clever one liners that fall flat

Might I add that this unholy alliance of Churchill haters is highly amusing or haven't you seen the funny side? On on side is a NF fan who detests him because he declared war on his beloved nazi Germany and other the left who fume over his mythical treatment of the working class.

The BBC? I'm at work so can't look at the minute but I'm telling you that that story or a version of exists in Lancs,Yorks,Notts, South Wales and so on. The army and Winston must have been pretty busy mate, what with a war on and all that. If I thought for one minute that the story was true I'ld be with you.

You will realise that it was a big widespread strike if you research your facts,
here is another link,

http://www.marxist.com/hbt/2-4.html

Not a huge amount of info as it was mostly covered up,

I'll have a look of course and the there was a widespread strike as everyone knows. I can even imagine WC choking on his cigar and bawling "Treason!". However as far as a lot of people are concerned all these guys with nooses round their necks or up against the wall awaiting a firing squad is a coalfield legend/myth on par with Robin Hood. There are obviously bits of a jigsaw which could make this story become a little plausible, but please the BBC and marxist.com.?

Looking back at one of the first postings about Churchill I noticed a mention of FDR and Stalin. Both of these men actually killed strikers. FDR did so indirectly by taking away striker's draft deferment as an essential industry and chucked them in the army. Stalin had 18million of his own people murdered. Makes old Winston look like a bit of a pussycat, eh?

Not what I said, if you read back,
As regards Churchill having strikers killed, you should look at this article,

http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1O48-Tonypandydispute.html

You should finish work, go home and research WC before defending his honour!

If you blame Stalin for crimes within the boundaries of the USSR you must blame British rulers for crimes within the British empire.

##I've just realised;this will be out of context;it was meant to reply to K.SWEETING,whose contribution to the post consisted of a statement that the'current lifestyles enjoyed'by Scotland,Wales & N. I. were entirely funded by ENGLAND and that furthermore, there would 'always be an ENGLAND'. The same comment being equally applicable to cockroaches, presumably?...Anyway,sorry to lose continuity## DID THE original thread refer to the English or the British? Ah; thought so... I won't even bother to try and work exactly whose 'current lifestyles' are being referred to...
Suffice to remind you that for Economic purposes, all of the above represent ONE NATION...with a common pool of taxes contributed to by, and (supposedly) for the benefit of the BRITISH PEOPLE as a WHOLE.
Ok, ok, so I admit the last sentence was almost as stupidly naive as the one it was intended to refute. Whatever... It;s getting late. The point is; ' Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland - AND England,as far as paying for things(i.e. lifestyles) goes, ARE one country - you XXXX!
(Calming down...) The interesting point about this thread, however, is that is that it is self-perpetuating; anybody seeking reasons to be proud or ashamed - or indeed both - of being British need look no further than these pages - for some considerable time.
