Might I add that this unholy alliance of Churchill haters is highly amusing or haven't you seen the funny side? On on side is a NF fan who detests him because he declared war on his beloved nazi Germany and other the left who fume over his mythical treatment of the working class.

The BBC? I'm at work so can't look at the minute but I'm telling you that that story or a version of exists in Lancs,Yorks,Notts, South Wales and so on. The army and Winston must have been pretty busy mate, what with a war on and all that. If I thought for one minute that the story was true I'ld be with you.

However as far as a lot of people are concerned all these guys with nooses round their necks or up against the wall awaiting a firing squad is a coalfield legend/myth on par with Robin Hood. Looking back at one of the first postings about Churchill I noticed a mention of FDR and Stalin. Both of these men actually killed strikers. FDR did so indirectly by taking away striker's draft deferment as an essential industry and chucked them in the army. Stalin had 18million of his own people murdered. Makes old Winston look like a bit of a pussycat, eh?
