Signs of a banana republic: A Minister for Justice; an economy reliant on one export commodity (well done to Simon Cowell and the X-factor for keeping the country afloat, but this is bad economic practice).

Solution: Lock said Minister for Justice in a cage with an Orang Utang with predilections (has to be done, I've seen it in all the films!)

Jake Thackray definitely. Never heard of Brassens but I'll look him up! Thanks.

Hi Caroline

Brassens was one of Jake's formative influences - he lived in France at one stage of his life.

I found this one as well on Youtube. Jake Thackray -----/Our Dog VRC0240. It starts with a song about why were tortoise's created as they are confusing to other animals, a recent recording in fact of Jake still performing in his own style.

Caroline,

I hesitate to ask what films you watch...

Caroline,

Thanks for that one - an unusually revealing insight. He was in his element in small venues like that.

Jake Thackray used to have a show on BBC2? Or appeared regularly on another show. Are you that old? I was very young at the time.

Hi Molly,

Jake Thackray used to have a slot on Esther Rantzen's "That's Life" prog on BBC1, and he later had a prog on ITV.

There is still a fan club, and the membership covers a wide range of ages. The wiki article on him is quite good.

Here's an old favourite ... The Lodger.
