Molly Brown says:
The gamer, known only as Lycerious, has found out how humanity's final days will be played out in the year 3991 - at least in the world of the computer game he has been hooked on for a decade.

The detailed game begins at the dawn of civilisation and should end in 2020, but he has continued cultivating his virtual world for another 1,971 years. Roughly 90% of the world's population has died either from nuclear annihilation, or famine caused by the global warming that has left absolutely zero arable land to farm.

Scores of different tribes begin the game, each seeking world domination. The only three superpowers left in his simulation are the Celts - controlled by Lycerius - the Vikings, and the Americans.

Lycerious posted details of his lengthy conquest on social networking site Reddit, where users were quick to draw comparisons between the game and George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984.

Well lets hope the REAL world fairs better than his computer game world.

Molly seems to get some kind of masochistic enjoyment from these doomsday scenarios - she's always posting about them.

Why she would think it worthwhile to discuss a computer game in which the three sides are 'Celts, Vikings and Americans' is beyond me - obviously closely modelled on real history!

Simple....they think and act like robotic automatons.....following the tradition of their culture and their brain dead society.

Who does? The characters in the computer game? So what?

Actually not my words, I just thought I'd start a silly thread, and I am cutting and pasting Simon's replies. It seems to work for him?

Mr B Tonks says:
I thought that was one of Simon's stock replies!

Ouch!

I'm going to plead ignorance - I don't usually read his posts. I did think the constant...use...of elipsis was a bit suspicious.

Molly Brown says:
"Can it get any funnier....oh the idiocy of the patriotic-nationalists...how desparate can you get."

Now, can you tell me is this a spelling error on Simon's part, does he mean desperate, or disparate, or is it a newspeak word?

Sure Molly I will be dead by then and so will all the people and offspring that I know in this world so I am not fussed at all. I hope at some time the planet we have so abused gets the chance to renew and evolution can carry on without our devastating impact. There are after all still several billion years before the end of life on this rock we inhabit.

Interesting post from you. Never thought of what could happen if one of those games is played to conclusion. No Info on the hedge fund managers I presume?

Molly Brown says:
I saw it in a "Strange News" section, the game is supposed to end in the year 2020, don't ask me why or how he did it, and what the actual point is, but I think the 2020 deadline is probably nearer the mark if we don't sort this world out pretty damn soon!

"some kind of masochistic enjoyment from these doomsday scenarios"!! Yeah!

Spin says:
Molly: Hmm..Does this imply that God is a gamer with nothing better to do but create and manipulate a world? Are we all real-life "Sims"? If so, wheres my upgrade? Surely I have notched enough bonus points to warrant a an Orc Battle-Axe or, at the very least, the sexual stamina of an over-excited, cocaine-riddled bonobo...=)

Well: other than spoofing Boydy, it's hard to see what purpose there is in this thread.

Molly, you know what Hitler said in his book Mein Kampf "lucky for rulers that most men don't think"... he got something right

Molly Brown says:
Hi Laura, apathy rules that's for sure. Actually the op could have been quite a good analogy for the constant ruling elites in the world, it's all a big game for them isn't it. They really do decide who lives and who dies. Interesting too, that the player involved, who says he does other things in addition to spending hours on a pointless video game, managed to manipulate the game so that only the WASP's were left at the end of the world. I wonder if that was his political view, after all it really should have been China shouldn't it?
