Williams says:
I recently bought a Fujifilm X20 and it is a superb camera but do take note that the lens sticks out a fair bit at all times and that the screen doesn't articulate, although it does have a nice optical viewfinder that zooms and gives shooting information overlaid. The X10 doesn't have this overlay.

The Samsung NX1000 is good value and I've also got one of those. This is an APS-C sensor system camera with interchangeable lens. A bit bulky for the pocket when fitted with the standard 3x 'zoom' lens and I got a 20mm pancake lens for it for this reason. Beware that the pancake lenses sold for around 75 back in the Autumn but are now selling for between 185 and 220, which is ridiculous in my opinion.

Remember that with interchangeable lens system cameras you are buying into a lens system so that in the future you can upgrade the body but keep any expensive lenses you have to fit the system. For that reason I would, perhaps, steer towards M4/3 [Panasonic/Olympus] or perhaps Sony [APS-C] rather than Samsung.

On the other hand I've found that as far as zoom lenses go for system cameras mentioned above, you could easily buy a mid-range super-zoom bridge camera for the price with change to spare.
Have a look at this one for a good super-zoom for a lens-like price. Obviously it will not take low light shots, especially at the longer end of its zoom range, with the same image quality as a system or SLR with APS-C sensor and a thousand Pound Zoom. It all depends on what you want.

For a value high performance advanced compact then you would find it hard to beat this one for value. If you don't pixel-peep or print to poster size you will probably not go wrong. It's a bridge super-zoom for the pocket at a sensible price [last year's model]
