Just to let everyone on here know, checked my bank account today only to find £49 had been taken out of my account by Amazon for a years subscription to Prime. I had not asked for this and couldn't understand where the mix up had occured. After a phone call to them, the representative cancelled my subscription and assured me that the money would be put back ito my account. I actually started to doubt myself until I came across this -

It does make me wonder how many people have been caught out this way.

I tried it once? - it didn't actually save me any money as most of the few items that I bought already had Super Saver Delivery and nothing arrived any faster than the 3 to 4 days that they usually take either. So I cancelled my experimenting with the free trial after a fortnight.

Having read this though, I thought I had better just double-check that I wasn't signed up for it again and without my knowledge and so I searched and found this page...

After clicking on the 'Manage Prime Membership' link, it then told me that I currently am not a Prime member - PHEW!

PS...bizarrely though it also told me that 'You are no longer an Amazon member' as well...?!!...Hmmm okay?!! ;o>

Thanks Suzy, helpful link as you never know with these buggers!

I see that a minimum total spend of GBP 10.00 is required for an order to qualify for free Super Saver Delivery - has that always been the case?

Lez Lee says:
No, it happened a few months ago. It doesn't apply to music.

Details here:

Oh, but it does. Ordered a CD from Amazon for under a tenner yesterday and was charged - thought it was strange, but have now found this:

"Our Super Saver Delivery service has changed. From 7 January 2014, all UK orders fulfilled by Amazon with a total value of at least £10 will qualify for FREE Super Saver Delivery. Previously, the £10 threshold applied to all our product categories except Books, Music, Film & TV, Blu-ray, Software or PC & Video Games".

Sod it. Hadn't bothered reading it :-(
Nice of them to inform us.

I'm sure the £10 minimum for Suoer Saver Delivery used to apply when I first started using 'zon however long ago that was, then they stopped it, and I guess they've now started it again.

Only noticed yesterday when I bought a couple of things from the Market Place as well as Amazon and thought that at least there'd be no postage charge for the Amazon disc - wrong! Something to watch.

Lez Lee says:
What do they charge?

Thanks for pointing this out Foe as I have no intention of trying Prime - I am never that desperate to get something almost as soon as I have ordered it!
Didn't know the £10 free postage applied to music now so thanks for that Johnny but I reckon my orders to mother Zon are very rarely below that ;-)

HMV and Jumbo Records are the two places that provide free instant deliver for me. Buying music on the high street. Now there's an idea.
But do they stock everything you want Red?
No, that's a fair point.

Posted on 8 Jan 2014 19:13:52 GMT
Lez Lee says:
Don't rub it in, Red. My nearest record shop is 15 − 20 miles away and it's almost certain they won't have what I want.
I had an email from HMV saying they'll honour reward points. Pity I chucked my voucher :-(

Johnny Bee says:
£1.26 for a CD so I can't see a mad rush to join Prime. Folks will just make sure they spend more than a tenner.

Brass Neck says:
Bit surprised that so many people were caught out. It's like every other 'free trial' which always make it clear that the onus is on you to cancel once the trial period ends or you'll be charged and enrolled into the full service - LoveFilm, Laithwaites, Virgin Wines, etc. Didn't realise that the £10 threshold now applied to cds - then again I buy from 3rd parties more often so this may well simply further curtail my orders from zon itself. Silly s0ds.

In reply to an earlier post on 8 Jan 2014 20:32:02 GMT
TheFoe says:
Yes I agree BN, if you opt for the 'free trial' and it makes it clear that this will lead to automatic subscription, then the onus is certainly on you. I genuinely can't remember signing up for this though, especially as I'm opposed to any form of subscription. I did have a couple of items arrive next day delivery, but I didn't think this odd as it was very close to Christmas, and I wrongly assumed that Amazon were busting a gut to get orders out on time.

In reply to an earlier post on 8 Jan 2014 20:43:47 GMT
Brass Neck says:
They are a bit sneaky in that any order automatically provides the first option as the zon Prime trial and you have to decline and select super saver - it'd be all too easy to whizz on through and so opt for Prime inadvertently .......... but then I'm tighter than a gnat's chuff so I always watch out for stuff like that, regardless of how rat@arsed I am! ;¨)

I got caught out with 1-Click when I found they'd added postage. I was able to change it straight away but I now use 'Add to basket'' instead.

In reply to an earlier post on 8 Jan 2014 21:10:22 GMT
Brass Neck says:
Again, I've always used the basket (I actually have 282 items saved for later which helps with monitoring prices, sometimes they do suddenly drop by a quid or more), always suspicious of anything that doesn't allow me to fully review what I'm getting into. We've just got new Mastercards through which has Contactless Payment built in which sounds scary!

I'm like Lez, my nearest shop (HMV) apart from Supermarket selections is 17 miles away so rarely go in it!

Red Mosquito says:
I guess I'm lucky. I've never lived more than a few miles away from a record shop. I'm 10 miles outside Leeds but I work there so it's really easy to spend all my money. Actually I'm spending less than I used to. One eye on retirement in 3 years time, hopefully.

Polar Bear near Headingly used to stock a good selection!

I wasn't notified of change either but did notice by chance the wording on the eligible for free super saver delivery wording had changed.

Derek. 'Zon did indeed charge for all orders way back when and if there was a free delivery it was for a spend of much more than ten quid. You could go through e-cash back in those days though which I think gave you 3% of your spend back. They stopped this on starting free super saver delivery which was fair enough as that was the better deal.

Have to say I've twice gone through to check out over the last 2 days and then cancelled order cos of delivery charges. Meant to use save for later but then thought it'd have to be orders from zon only to qualify and I couldn't be bothered with extra hoops to jump through

canny buy a cd in kilmarnock outside a supermarket, whereas previously there were a few (i even worked in a couple). going back, the most rewarding record buying trips were taking the train up to glasgow to buy piles o' punk records. if anyone remembers the 4 main outlets at the time, all within a stone's throw of each other in the city centre -
bruce's - good for punk/new wave and scottish music
listen - couldny move for kiss fans, but good for punk imports and reggae
wee bloggs - punk, alternative, industrial, reggae
big bloggs - kinda mainstream - didny use much
then we all thought what a great thing it was that a virgin megastore opened on renfield st. when, it was really the beginning of the end.

Only record shop left in Dundee is the one that was the most horrible to be in AND the most expensive. Even accompanied the other half to a clothes shop during their closing down sale even with an out being "permitted" to go in there instead. Yep, you've guessed it, it was an HMV
