.........just to put a musical link to it I am unable to see Amazon recomendations and the reason why is because my hotmail will not open e-mails or even delete them or allow me to get into my contacts list. I have tried to contact them to sort it but with no sucess.

Any ideas please? C

I don't want to state the obvious, but if you go to the top of the page it should say 'Hello Charlieost Your Account'. If you place the cursor on this, scroll down to 'Your Recommendations', left click this. At the top of the page it will say 'Recommended For You', again left click this and it will show you what you want to know.

C,have you been snaffooed into the now Notorious-"OUTLOOK"by MS
without your permission? MS,is dumping Hotmail by the Summer and they
have tricked 1000s of people into using OUTLOOK for their E-mails etc.
If you still have a normal Hotmail account, you are 1 of the lucky ones &
you should just follow the instructions that FOE gave you, there is no
reason why that shouldn't work.If on the other hand, you have been switched over to-OUTLOOK,i will get back to you with some help,it is a
diabolically user unfriendly System & the Web is on fire with complaints.
Whatever you do..DO NOT click on="learn more" on the bottom right or
you will be switched over permanently.Good luck-JAN.
PS:-I hear now that users of Hotmail only have 4 weeks!!

Alchemae says:
A couple of things maybe,1st the obvious--are you now using Outlook?,if
so,you did click & its permanent, you cant take a quick look to see if you like it.If you are NOT trying to find an alternative provider, but you feel that
the whole Format of Outlook is bad[it is],there are many who can help you
find your way around things.Do you need any help right now in trying to
locate a function/list/person/mail/contact/forwarding etc etc,if so..i am
around into the small hours,regards-JAN.

You're a good man... No panic,though!
It was just that someone mentioned Hotmail going haywire. Now I've noticed I don't seem to have had any email recently, although I'd sent a couple and was expecting answers. Then, when you mentioned the 'Outlook' thing, I remembered that Hotmail had been bombarding me with info about this new thing they were trying to get everyone into - and I'm sorry but I don't recall exactly what it was, except that it was something to do with Skype.(You've probably realised by now the scope of my wordly achievements lies somewhere outside the technical field!)
Anyway I had a semi-recollection of trying to find out more about it, and when you mentioned not clicking on 'more info', I had a momentary panic that I may have done that, and somehow stopped my access to my emails. More than likely adding 2 & 2 and getting 24 out of it. I certainly haven't used Outlook yet.
I'll monitor the situation and get back to you if I'm still foxed. It's really no big deal, I don't even use it that much...
But hey!... Thank you so much for offering your help, that really warmed my heart. But I wouldn't have you losing your beauty sleep over that, my brother!
Seriously... I am very grateful. I may be back, panicking again, but until then...
Good night, buddy!

Thanks again for info. Great stuff Jan. I opened a new e-mail account with g mail and have used the g mail account in all dealings (not the dodgy ones) for about two weeks now. The only real problem I have is that I am unable to contact a couple of friends who never went on to Facebook and who are of course in my contacts list which I cannot open. I've had it with hotmail. There have been problems in the past but I am relieved to hear that it is not just some bug or virus that I have got. Now where did I leave that pen and paper and the envelopes all those years ago. :)

Sorry, had to go and crash after last post - weird sleep patterns! Anything up?
Haven't checked Hotmail yet, I'll let you know any changes.
I'll be monitoring this thread, if you want a word.
Cheers... DJ

You are welcome C,but unfortunately i cannot help you with Gmail issues,
i don't know their set up,but i do hear from friends that Gmail users can
face other sorts of problems.I have 2 suggestions,revert/start using the
Outlook System & i will help you all i can & i have a friend who's partial
income is derived from setting up sites/blogs for vendors..he uses Gmail,
and perhaps i could pass on any problem of yours to see if he can come
up with any answer.Another idea that may be a possibility is,i could him
if he can find the time to answer questions on Gmail on doTech.I hope
this info is of some use, good luck-JAN.

JAN - Update;
Seems I was over-reacting a bit - I have recieved some emails from last few days. There is one I was expecting that hasn't materialised, but that's obviously not conclusive.
My hotmail page is still getting bombarded with pop-ups about I take it that's what you were warning everyone about? I didn't actually see a 'more info' button - main options seemed to be ''Convert now'' or ''Ask me later''. And a smaller (click here for) ''FAQ''.
Needless to say, I'm not going anywhere near them!
The ''Outlook''' switchover, whatever that means, seems to be scheduled for 8th of April.
I hope it means more to you than it does to me; do let me know if there's anything else I can tell you.
And once again, many thanks... Lol ...DJ

DJ,not being with Hotmail any longer,i cant tell what little tricks they are
getting up to.The original trick/prompt said:-learn more-Outlook.This was
at the bottom right of the screen, they seem to have changed the wording
now, from what you say.No matter what the wording says-DONT GO THERE,

Wow !

Whilst not a geek - reading this thread makes me wonder about Bill Gates and his cronies.

Now I have to admit that I've always used MS Outlook (as an integral component of MS Office) as my e-mail source so I'm cool about the future of my ability to send and receive e-mails - BUT - all 3 of my sons and my wife have hotmail / live e-mail accounts so I am indebted to each and every contributor to this thread for highlighting the forthcoming problem.

I will be forwarding a link to this thread to their e-mail accounts (assuming that they receive the e-mail) to alert them to the potential problem that they may be about to encounter.

Thanks everyone.
