Since there was so much controversy (yes, really, there was!) I thought we should sort it out and get the right result. Any outrageously rude (esp. re. Will-I-Fook) or sycophantic comments (re. Sir Tom, the living legend from Ponty) will be gratefully received but will not affect the result. Award 4,3,2,1 points as you see fit
Leah - 4
Andrea - 3
Matt? - 2
Mike - 1

Difficult, since I successfully managed not to see any of them so I'll award them all zero;-)

Did you have your chair turned around then Derek, like the Muppets (except for Sir Tom, of course) judging?

Didn't see the programme as such but did catch the semi and the 4 chosen performances for the final final.

Mike will make a fine cabaret act. Matt the bland could have a career on cruse liners and I would actually like to hear Andrea do her own material rather than the covers she did for the show. Leah. if she can/does write material to suit her own voice/personality could also be quite good I suppose. On the sjhow - or the 2 programs I saw - she never sang a song, all she did was vocal gymnastics which was pretty boring over one song let alone an album. Easily outperformed by her semi final rival as miMike was by Josephh

Never seen the programme, so I've no idea. I did start to watch the Cardiff Singer Of The World final this evening but the younger Little Miss D sneaked in and changed the channel while I was making a cup of tea.

s'immaterial who wins, as, if there was still such a thing as the cheap box in woolies, that's where they'd be in a fortnight.

We don't get that here...pleased to say. Nor Pop Idol (although there is a programme called Idolos which I think is similar - believe it's on SIC, appropriate it seems)!

I've never watched the programme, but go Andrea!

(Have had dealings with her in her day job for several years - a very capable young lady, who won't be serving burgers if it all goes tits up).

Private Eye magazine kindly pointed out that last year's winner - whose name escapes me - sold 825 copies of her first album before sliding back into the swamp we call Obscurity.

Dolly Parton's beautiful song, I Will (Will.i.?) Always Love You was savagely murdered back in the early '90s by Whitney Houston (although dogs liked to screech along to it), then disinterred on The Voice (:-D) and torn into final shreds by another wailing banshee named Leurggh.

The guy with the Country voice was the best of the poor bunch, but we really have heard better at a Karaoke night down the local.

I watched the final and from what I heard, the right one won. That other bloody girl appeared to love doing vocal gymnastics which resulted in her murdering songs IMO. The back guy and the country singer were OK, but would I consider buying anything by any of them - I doubt that very much!!

James Warner says:
Matt was to most polished performer and I can't think of any reason other than racial prejudice that he got bumped first. Leah was the most original and technically gifted, but I Will Always Love You was not the best song for her to sing. If she does get a break, I hope she doesn't go down the R&B diva route. Andrea was relatively understated, but has a fine pure voice, did the sympathy vote because she is blind make the difference? Mike has a decent voice, but was ordinary, in my opinion.

Not sure how Mike got to the final... while I like country and we are short of home grown talent I had to agree with that his voice was a bit flat. Either that or he run out of puff. He should have gone out in preference to Matt.

Yes, Matt isn't original but he held his notes and had a soulful voice. If he hadn't sung Babylon but possibly tried Sam Cooke's You Send Me the result might have been different. Babylon is one of those songs best left to the original artist, David Gray... whether you like him or not.

Leah - as Cornish has already said - performed the vocal gymnastics that with well chosen, new material could be impressive and probably commercial. However, she murdered Minnie Ripperton's song and should never have even entertained covering I Will Always Love You. I feel that no other singer can truly 'own' the song because Dolly wrote and sung it for Porter Wagoner and half of what makes the song IMO great is the emotion behind the words. Unfortunately, can't find her first performance on the Porter Wagoner show circa 1973 to illustrate my point but here's a link to Nashville's homage to the man:

So, I think common sense prevailed and Andrea won although she too murdered Joan Osborne's One Of Us along the way... and arguably didn't come close to matching Amy Lee's original of My Immortal in the final.

That said I think the judges failed to turn round for the gorgeous voice of Bronwen Lewis is the blind auditions. Hope she is back next year... or gets a record deal beforehand:

Sparky says:
Seems to me a lot of the contenders try to showcase their voice via non-stop vocal gymnastics, they appear incapable of uttering a single word without a warble or a swoop of some description. This is understandable as they only have a minute or two to perform but surely the coaches should realise that this approach is doomed to failure (doomed I say!!). As Leah was the only culprit to get to the final perhaps we'll hear less of it next time - if there is one.

I only watched one episode as I was with family and they insisted, but if she's the one with who sang Fields of Gold in welsh I agree. She shouldn't even need The Voice to make it.
