ok, for good or ill :)

thou shalt submit but only one list of your top ten solo artists (this will not be subject to compilers' whim)
artists, as with groups, must have released material purely under his/her own name, and not in conjunction with a group(ie no 'and the', will be included) (which unfortunately excludes mr cave :( ). nominations welcome for members of bands, as long as they have released material in their own name.
'pop' covers from perry como to wild man fisher, from rick astley to grace jones, from stevie wonder to billy bragg.
deejays, inventive engineers, etc, are acceptable, as long as they have released material in their own (or adopted) name.

individuals who chose to perform/record under an adopted name, ie nine inch nails, st vincent, aphex twin, get cape etc are acceptable.

will call time when we're aw fed up wi' it :) - or tues 4 march at 9pm, whichever comes first.

1 Van Morrison
2 Miles Davis (Could put these two in joint first position, too close to call)
3 Steve Howe
4 Kd Lang
5 Rickie Lee Jones
6 Jon Anderson
7 Rory Gallagher
8 Nils Lofgren
9 Michel Petrucciani
10 Gilbert O' Sullivan

Two jazzers(allowed tech?) and a Gilbert for his genius as a wordsmith and talent as a composer! + he always makes me smile.
Some great choices already among the usual suspects and (again!) I've omitted any Motown/Soul/Funksters.I think I'm siding with young Mr Brass.

martin - ye can have as many jazzers as you like, as long as it's ten or less

jb - naw!

btw - all stipulations in brackets, distancing the nominator from the less credible works of an artist, will be ignored :)

brass - well, it widny be nice to call them 'boabyheids', would it?

Stone me, I left out Tim Buckley, oh well!!
I kept jazzers out my list otherwise Davis, Jarrett & Coltrane would be in there if quantity on the shelves bore any relation to it ;-)
