After The Windsor Castle PPU on Saturday, it was agreed that - if Mark Kibble can't make it to a PPU - then we'll take a PPU to him.

THE VERY LEAST THAT HE DESERVES!!!

Tommo and I had a quick chat earlier and we agreed that we need to set a date in stone so that we can arrange holidays / travel etc. in order to enjoy an alternative PPU venue to The Windsor Castle (and The Schooner Inn in Fowey).

After the York PPU a couple of years ago, Mark and I enjoyed an 'eye boggling' couple of drinks together at The Vic in Coalville (as per post code in title) - accompanied by a Bon Jovi tribute duo. What a grate pub (a number of real ales on tap) and an 'audience' that were so friendly - they could all have been PPUers.

So - (after a false start with the date) 25 May 2013 - The Vic (Bikers' Pub) Coalville, Leicestershire is the venue for the next PPU.

Lots of notice. All the right reasons. Who's up for it ?

So far we have positive reponses from Tommo, Schiz, Cornish, Wharfy, BOF and me with highly probables from a couple of others (MC included).

The Vic may not be the easiest place to get to, but it does offer on site accommodation. There are also B&Bs dotted around the area.

Slightly OT, isn't it the Galleon in Fowey, Grey? ;-)

Mark Kibble says:
Thought I'd better confirm my attendance as you have all made such a special effort to arrange a Coalville gig.

For those of you who are aware of my visit to hospital yesterday, I am happy to report that the Angiogram provided a positive result, whoopeeeeeee, after the torrid time I've endured over the last eighteen months I needed that, I require an echo test on the right side of my heart, but I'm told that that is merely to confirm the procedures findings, and that the chest pressures and pains are due to the C.O.P.D, as are the pleuritic pains that I have all around my rib cage.

Needless to say that a sigh of relief accompanied the forehead swabbing, every thing else might be falling apart but at least the old ticker is still plodding along, just need to co-ordinate the legs now for the trip to the Vic, doctors orders have grounded me till next monday but then the rollator will be dusted off and I'll be back in training for the trek from my house, it must be all off three quarters of a mile, may have to call in at the Monkey walk, Engine, Snibby, Red house and Stamford on the way ..... Ummm no, better give the Stamford a miss, if I get started on Dave's pedigree then I could have difficulty finding the door.

Su and I will be attempting to get there, but I haven't told her yet:-)

Can anybody, MK I assume, confirm whether or not the Vic is dog friendly? If so we'll bring him as well, but we promise we'll keep him well away from the pub cat!

Derek W. says:
Right that'll be myself, Su and Ríg the Doberman attending. We'll probably make a day of it and find a National Trust place to visit beforehand where we can try and wear Ríg out a bit (fat chance) before we get to the pub. If anybody's worried about meeting Ríg, then Cornish, Grey and Wharfy can vouch for his good character. Not sure who can vouch for Cornish, Grey and Wharfy though:-)

PS - Haven't forgotten The Decemberists stuff Cornish, I'll get to it this weekend.

Mark Kibble says:
Snibston discovery park is nearby Derek, it's a museum plus the old slag heaps are now full of paths for dog walking.

Just down the A42 (M42/M5) is Conkers, a massive reclaimed site that has all manner of attractions, don't know for sure but I think doggees are allowed.

Derek - the nearest NT property to Coalville is Calke Abbey about 10 miles further north. It is a fascinating house and well worth looking round but more importantly for Rig has a lot of parkland attached to it.
