Thin Lizzy will debut new material when they play a show in Dublin in December - by which time they'll have finished recording their first album without Phil Lynott.

Guitarist Scott Gorham has revealed plans to unveil their latest tracks when they return from studio work with big-name producer Kevin Shirley, due to start in a fortnight.

Lizzy currently consist of veterans Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton behind former Almighty frontman Ricky Warwick, Marco Mendoza and Damon Johnson. The lineup has also included Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell and Guns'n'Roses' Richard Fortus.

Gorham tells Hot Press: "I'll be going out to Los Angeles at the end of the month to work on some songs with Damon Johnson, then we'll start recording in Kevin's studio.

"We're all excited about the new record - but especially Ricky Warwick and Damon. You have six guys that are chomping at the bit. We can't wait to get this thing going."

He says of the Dublin show: "Hopefully we're going to cook up a couple of songs. I think that would be a good thing to do. I hope I'm not talking too soon."

The band reignited in 2010 after a lineup led by John Sykes collapsed. He'd reactivated the name in 1996, ten years after Lynott's death.

Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale are considering reuniting next year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Deep Purple MkIII.

They'd been working on a full reunion with keyboardist Jon Lord until his sudden death earlier this year. But that wasn't the only hurdle facing them.

Hughes tells CBS: "Jon, David and I were trying to get it together. We couldn't get hold of Ritchie Blackmore. We sent carrier pigeons and the Pony Express - but nobody at Castle Blackmore answered the door. It wasn't meant to be."

With the additional issue of drummer Ian Paice's commitment to the current Purple lineup, Hughes says he and Whitesnake mainman Coverdale have given up on that approach.

But he adds: "David and I have talked about it weekly since Jon died - how we can do something to keep the flame burning.

"We don't want to hinder the heritage of the band. Some bands get back together and sound bloody awful.

"It's the 40th anniversary of Burn next year. I'm not giving you a hint to something that's going to happen, but you just never know.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we did something, David and I. Something might pop its head in the next two years."

Hughes contributed two tracks to Re-Machined, the official tribute album to Purple's iconic Machine Head album. It's released later this month with one of those tracks, while both are available now as part of Classic Rock's Re-Machined Fanpack.

The singer and bassist recently revealed that Black Country Communion's upcoming album, Afterglow, could be their last because guitarist Joe Bonamassa can't commit to touring.
