Mondo Ray says:
Following a discussion on Cornwall's open-air Minack Theatre, and realising that Shakespeare's forgotten Rock & Rock Masterpiece - Return To The Forbidden Planet - will be landing there for 5 days in August, 20th-25th incl., we thought we might go see it.

It then became clear that it would be an ideal location featuring equally ideal fun and Rock & Roll for all you other musically minded people to meet up with us and each other.

More details to follow, but - anybody interested?

I think it's probably only an ideal location for you two and Cornish! It would be very nice but I don't fancy a 10 hour train journey. Also I'd have to stay 2 nights so I'd be shelling out a minimum of 300 altogether. Sorry lads!

Won't be escaping at that time Mondo, but wish you luck - sounds good. With all those soon to be retired deadheads....

I saw an excellent amateur performance of Macbeth in the grounds of the nunnery ruins on Iona. It was really cool (literally for June) if a tad midgey. Some years ago now.

Mondo Ray says:
Poor nuns. What had they done to get so ruined? Not the local gin, was it?

Lez Lee says:
They were Benedictines Mondo, which might explain it.

Rampaging Vikings did for the monks a few times but it was John Knox and his merry men fair did for the nunnery. Can't remember if the cast threw in that line from Hamlet though -Get thee to a nunnery.
There's gin being made in Shetland now though. Not sure how it compares to the Orcadian brew - Thor the Skullsplitter

Mondo Ray says:
The Thunder God rode out one day
Upon his favourite filly;
"I'm Thor!" he cried,
The horse replied,
"You forgot your thaddle, thilly!"

I wonder if the h in Thor only became silent after their stay in Ireland - t'anks be to t'e t'under god.

Mondo Ray says:
Tor Johansson (19 October 1903 - 12 May 1971), better known by the stage name Tor Johnson, was a Swedish professional wrestler (billed as The Super Swedish Angel) and actor.

He is perhaps best remembered for his roles in a number of B-movies, including police inspector turned zombie Daniel Clay in Plan 9 from Outer Space and playing the role of a recurring lab assistant often named "Lobo".

Hi - for those that may be interested, here is the link to the Live Webcam at The Minack Theatre. It is live and today's performance starting at 2.00pm is 'Titanic - The Musical'. Looks pretty bleak down there today, but I can assure you that in August it is glorious (sometimes).
At least this will give you a flavour of what The Minack is all about. As you can see, the location is spectacular and totally unique. While you're there, why not have a wander round the site? Either Mondo or I will post further details in due course.

RedAlFire says:'ll understand that it is not really feasible for me guys, over 2000 miles is a bit of a stretch. Good luck with the idea though - but no canvassing for votes ok? ;-)

I won't be there either. For the price it would cost me with flights, travel, hotels, beer, etc I can get two weeks all inclusive on the Med.

Spacepig...I quickly calculated the cost for me and mine and I could get a holiday in the Algarve of, wait for it, 7 weeks...full board! It is mega expensive to both travel within and stay in the UK....for us poor EEC relations that is...

If this goes on into the evening then take something warm to wear and warm to drink cos' even in Summer - magical place as it is, i.e. I saw Midsummer Night's Dream there - it gets very cold.

Would love to be there but caring duties prevent it.

A customer says:
if your lucky you'll see dolphins, bit distracting from the play as the actors can't compete

Mondo Ray says:
2p.m. matinees on 22nd and 24th would be probable targets, after which the evening would be more appropriate for the PPU bit. However, seeing the great lack of interest so far, looks like it might be just RedJohn and me (and our wives, of course - how many have you got now RJ?) :-)

RedJohn says:
Still just the one Mondo (the most recent, but she says it's just as tenuous as it ever was).

Enough of your private life! What about the trip? :-)

RedJohn says:
Like the 'Owl' still 'ever hopeful' for a statement of interest (or a postal order).
