Why is Paul Weller so infrequently mentioned around here - given his enduring and wide range of varied and cool stuff ?

Am I the only one who has more Comus than Bowie in their collection?

I don't have much Bowie - but one of the first singles I ever had...i think my big bro bought it - was space oddity, and a really spooky and cool b-side..ah b-sides...called wild eyed boy from free cloud...it may even be here somewhere...lets see now...

Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud (Live) [Stereo] - a live version no less...almost Comus like in its spookiness

My cousin lives in David Bowies house.
The Paulster was a god - Dreaming of Monday, Girl on the Phone and English Rose helped me deal with much teenage angst - Just carrying the tape player to the park had me resembling a lopsided long armed monkey. and had to be home by 8!!

He's not a relevant artist to me in the sense that he hasn't made anything interesting or innovative for nigh on 40 years.

In reply to an earlier post on 13 Nov 2012 09:24:22 GMT
Nugent Dirt says:
Not sure he ever was really that innovative. His early Ziggy-Aladdin period was a development of what the Stones had been doing. I mean he even covered Let's Spend The Night Together FFS. His funk-soul stuff, though good, has its obvious influences and the Berlin trilogy owes a big debt to krautrock.

That video of him and Jagger doing 'Dancing in the Streets' by the way. Jesus wept!

Wellar's Heatwave worked though (see what I did there)

Well er, still preferred the original Martha & the Vandellas - one of the greatest records of the 60s.

I love that too! Bananarama Really Saying Something NO!

Banarama were like a comic book group - three silly girls with weedy girlie voices all singing the same lines with no harmonies whatsoever!

Heatwave is great tune (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas version that is). Their The Tamla Motown Collection album is brilliant.

You're clearly his biggest fan then as I like him quite a lot but am more than happy with just the one PW
