Oh dear GAID...what have you done?

You might like to transpose this back to the novelty post and bring your 6'' (steady) back over here (and maybe not say your 6'' is after Helen..!).

Ooops! You've already nominated on the novelty thread...you've picked..
They're coming to take me away haha (how appropriate)

Told you there were too many threads......!;-)

Sorry to be a bore (love the song and if it's allowed it'll get points from me) but 'Need Your Love So Bad' first came out as a 3.47 minute single in 1968, that version was released on Pious Bird Of Good Omen in 1969, and it wasn't until 2004 that the various longer studio takes (5 in all!) appeared on a CD release of said album.

Hi JB.

Researching into the annals I have found that the additional recordings of Need Your Love So Bad by Fleetwood Mac were originally released on the 6 album set released on 16 September 1999 entitled 'The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions 1967-1969'. There are 8 versions of the song, all on disc 3, and all attributed as being recorded at CBS Studio, New Bond Street, London on the following dates:

Disc 3 Track 1: Version #2 remake - Running time 6:55 Date : 28.4.1968
Disc 3 Track 9: Version #1 - Part 1 - Total running time 11:33 Date : 11.4.1968
Disc 3 Track 10: Version #1 - Part 2 - as above
Disc 3 Track 11: Version #1 - Part 3 - as above
Disc 3 Track 12: Version #2 remake - Take 1. Running time 13:06 Date: 28.4.1968
Disc 3 Track 13: Version #2 remake - Take 2. as above
Disc 3 Track 14: Take 3 previously unissued. Running time 6:18 Date 28.4.1968
Disc 3 Track 15: USA Version previously unissued. Running time 6:18 Date 28.4.1968

Don't know how this leaves things but full information on this stunning looking set is on:

See now, this is exactly why I never bothered buying that CD set. Who in their right mind needs 8 versions of the same song on one CD? No doubt you will find your favouite version, then never bother listening to the rest of them ever again, I know that is what I would do. God how I hate CDs with multiple versions of the same song on the CD.

RedAlFire says:
There ARE some stunning other tracks on this set though Spacey! Some veritable blues classics - Mean Old Fireman is one I can associate with! lol

Spacepig says:
I know it's all down to personal taste Al, but for me, far too much repetition on that set. It don't make no difference to me if one version has a solo that lasts 3 seconds longer than another, or if one has a different drummer, or if one take messed up halfway through and they had to start again. If that's the case, why would anyone want to hear the first version? The band messed it up, it was meant to be cut out, so just dump it. The bonus tracks on Fleetwood Mac for example just drove me crazy to the extent that I ended up burning the original tracks on to a separate CD, and now never bother playing the one with all the bits and pieces on it. No way would I take the chance with that boxset, I would end up throwing it through the telly. And, in my experience, FM are among the very worst for this, CD 2 of The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions is just horrific IMO, a complete mess and I can't imagine who could enjoy listening to it. First CD is sublime though.

Rant over.

Hi Al

Don't know how this leaves things, either. I knew that NYLSB had been released as a single originally (on Blue Horizon) and was just curious to know the album it came from, as I'm not as familiar with Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac as I should be.

One for Mr Brass Neck, I think.

But that is the beauty of mp3 mate, cherry pick the ones you like. I like to have them all - and I'm glad I do as my tastes have changed over the years and plenty of tracks I thought were pants when I was younger I now enjoy. Similarly with errors and stuff, I do like to listen to remixes and alternate versions - may not like them all but there have been quite a few times when I've disagreed with the record company as to what should have been released (and the down and dirty recordings are sometimes just what you need when the mood fits). Totally agree that CD1 is superb!!

In reply to an earlier post on 20 May 2012 23:16:36 BDT
RedAlFire says:
Agreed JB although personally I think it qualifies, because it IS a studio version and was laid down as so. As with many many other releases, the single has been (seemingly) edited from it at a length to fit a 45.

Just referring to the OP, folks. It was one of several takes that wasn't used for the 'original album or single release' (sounds great in all it's six minute plus glory, though)

I say let it stand, cause it's a great track, we're on the last track (boo hiss, let it continue) and just - cause.

As suggested by Lez Lee, will be dusting down the sub 3 minute thread once this one completed, so if you'd like to get your short bits tidied up it would be appreciated. The list of nominations so far will be bumped up to the current page also.

Whilst I've not contributed on every track I too have enjoyed revisiting many 'epics' and also share the hope that this can be revisited for a second compilation - maybe in the winter when sitting indoors poring over good music is a pastime that really appeals?

For me the true winners on here (as with many of the threads with longevity) are all of us who have enjoyed the offerings put forward by....all of us!! Well done!
