Personally, I have reached the point at which I am far more likely to award higher marks to something that is new to me or a number that I had pretty much forgotten about prior to it being nommed. For me, it's the recommend and discover aspect of this game that is most enjoyable and I know there are a good few others who feel the same. Comus, Bent, Union and Crystal Castles are just a few examples, off the top of my head, of artists that I am rapidly growing to appreciate as a result of one of their numbers being nominated here. Granted, it's a bit different when it comes to the pop rounds. After all, which longer word was 'pop' derived from? Bottom line is, the more folk we have joining in and enjoying it the better, regardless of how much or little they care about picking winners. Yeah there may be some folk that appear to be a bit obsessive about it all, but for me that actually adds to the fun :-)

Too many rules spoil the wotsit. when I started the Novelty thread I said the rule was: if YOU think it's funny, it's in! I said that because I like to think I have faith in all the regulars within the MF and they, certainly when voting, will know if the nominations fall into a category. If someone wants to put something into a categorised thread to be valued and voted on by the others which doesn't match the expectations or description on the label, it'll be swerved anyway.

Mondo Ray says:
"Novelty" doesn't actually mean "funny", it's just something designed to amuse by being unusual without being threatening.

I'm with you Neph. Poor Puff couldn't understand when Jackie Paper passed away and left a huge void in his life. :-(

LOL! That's ok Neph. One of the beauties of an online forum is that folk can be whoever they want to be at any given time. Benefit fraud investigator! Nice one centurion, like it. :-)

Seriously though, I'm very sorry to hear about blackcat Ginger. Always upsetting for anyone to lose a pet. Hope he didn't have to go through too much pain.
