Eight Miles High, it has the best psychedelic guitar solo EVER!

Inspired by constant listening to John Coltrane's solo in "India" from Impressions, whilst on tour. The band had that album and if memory serves one by Ravi Shankar on a reel to reel tape :-)

Had no idea. Not looking to see what comes out top, just interested. In hindsight, perhaps I shouldn't have, but still it's just out of curiosity.

I am very interested to know more about the songs themselves and why they mean the things that they do to different people as well. I can't see much discussion on the other thread beyond the actual voting? - so I think that this thread could be just as insightful?

I know virtually nothing about The Byrds beyond their name? - so I will definitely be popping back to see if I can pick up any interesting song recommendations for me to then go looking up on YouTube...x

Ah well, you can't be looking back every time a thought comes into your head and there are probably loads of other posters who weren't around at the time as well anyroads - or like me, don't remember it.(Edit: just seen it was one of the voting threads so I wouldn't have paid that much attention)

No idea myself even though I was listening to The Byrds on the radio from back when I was knee high to a jack rabbit. Dunno about favourite but I always associate them mast with Mr Tambourine Man.

Suzy, other than the surf scene, the Byrds were the first of the West Coast bands to make it big. Like so many of the bands, the members came from the folk scene, but went electric once beatlemania seized the US. At first they were hailed the US answer to the Beatles predominantly due to their harmonies. The band did have a jingle sound and covered many Dylan songs. They did move into country and were also one of the first country rock bands. Through many personnel changes, Roger McGuin was the constant. All of their albums are worth a purchase IMO with the exception of Byrdmaniax which is pretty dire (although I do have it).

Eight Miles High on Untitled....the band reach a musical high just before
the vocals which reaches a vocal plateau, wonderful!,mind you tho the rest of
the album isn't bad....magical for the reformation it shows they haven't
lost it.

Edit...in fact I'll play now.....
