Amazon's Vinyl Delivery Service - Awful

I thought I would post this on the off-chance that someone from Amazon would see this. But also I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

I bought the new Lostprophets album "Weapons" on LP and it was badly damaged. Whilst I'm sure the record worked (didn't even bother playing it) the sleeve was bent, there was a sticker on there which someone had tried to remove but didn't properly remove and there were lots of creases.

The reason for this is easy to see, the item came in a box the size of a large DVD player box with just a bit of brown paper to "protect" it. There was no plastic around the new vinyl which you do get if you buy from HMV. I don't know if or why someone removed that.

Seeing as vinyl are supposed to be pretty collectable and seeing as it came 10 days after the album was released I was obviously not impressed.

Amazon have just now sent out a replacement for me but please Amazon if you are reading can you please sort out vinyl deliverys with plastic round the record, smaller boxes and MUCH MUCH more protection. And tell you packers about them too!

Fingers crossed the new one will be in good condition. Anyone else had this problem??

Not much point posting this here. This is a customer forum, Amazon don't read it. Best bet is to contact customer services and moan a bit. Probably won't make much difference but you will feel better for it.

I find similar problems with CDs which they send in a cardboard envelope. Often the case is cracked or the tabs inside broken so the disc is floating around. Initially I replaced it myself if the disc wasn't damaged but now it gets sent back. Surely having to pay for returns and send out a replacement isn't good economic sense, better to send it with a bit more protection to start with? I can only guess that a lot of people put up with broken cases.

Thanks for your reply guys. Yes I can expect the same to happen with CD's too.

Fair play to Amazon though they sent my replacement special delivery and so it came this morning!! The condition is much better and I'm happy with it.

I have to admit GR, the only time I would complain about a damaged case would be if it was some special kind of case. If it was an ordinary one, lot less hassle just to replace it myself. Although I have had a few damaged ones from sellers, all my Amazon ones have arrived in perfect condition. What I do to them afterwards is another story!

Glad you got sorted IATOAO.

I used to think the same Spacepig but it got too frequent an occurrence. It didn't used to happen but since Amazon started using these single layer card envelopes - which I'm sure is only to cut costs - its become a problem. Sending them back is my way of customer feedback.

I've had a few sellers selling CDs "as new" when they clearly aren't. Now I contact them for details first. If they don't reply they don't get a sale... from me at least. Amazon are always reliable it getting a refund anyway.
